You're comparing a brand at the end of it's relevance (G-Unit) to a rapper at the height of his career (Drake), and trying to draw conclusions about the indie game from it.
As a rule of thumb indie is always better, unless you're a handful of rappers. G-Unit could sell 50k on Koch (or whoever) basically forever, with zero chance of being dropped.
Obviously going from multi-plat to 50k is a tough pill to swallow, and they deserve to get clowned relentlessly for putting such a focus on sales, but that's another topic.
