So it's safe to say Jordan Peele is a one hit wonder right?

Breh you see it too:ohhh:

Like I get it, black folks got it ROUGH, including this marsupial that identifies of such a powerful form of human being. Yet, its beating a dead fukking horse with every movie being a social experiment. How come we can't have movies on the level of Sleepless in Seattle? Why black folks can't go to space without being food to monsters? Why every flick has to be a struggle and some change. For the life of me, I wish we could go back to the days of "The Best Man". Movies where black people weren't a political scheme but normal human fukking beings.

Flicks like "Get Out", "The Help", and etc kills the vibe of what we stand for. I just want a black movie on the level of a Criterion release without some sort of gay, struggle, interracial, I need vindication and validation from another race because the directors look at black folks as a entire donkey to put the tail on, type of movies.
funny thing about all of this is that there were a lot more films/tv shows depeicting normal black life in the 70s/80s/90s

that shyt is all but done now.

all of the media aimed at us is either very sexual/violent or were getting a boot in the ass by white people.

Thats not what life is like for most black people...
...we do normal shyt and then go to bed.

We attack our own stronger than any other community and hold people to insane standards. If Jordan Peele makes a good movie, tons of folks wanna come out of the woodwork and shyt on it because it’s not a Get Out level classic

Everyone has an individual right to criticism, but community wide trends are different than that and this has been a long-standing fact about the black community. Any denial of that is just willful ignorance

How did you get "we" from this discussion when it's one poster making their own opinion? Dudes on this site stay saying "we" and lumping everyone into the same group together as they speak for everyone.

There's no community wide trend in criticizing Jordan Peele's work. Again, if his work isn't good, then it's work isn't good. People are entitled to their opinion about it and I'm sure even he would want you to be honest about his craft instead of giving positive affirmation out of it out of bias.

Remember when Spike Lee painted black folks as regular humans but got treated like a hateful midget :mjpls:. Like heavens forbid, we have black flicks where its just a bunch of folks enjoying themselves and having common problems. If we are not gay, fat, ugly, corny, furry unicorns...we are going to get overlooked in cinema:beli:

People have been all over thecoli shyttin on this movie, and my point isn’t Coli only in the first place nor is it Peele only. It’s bigger than that

That's still not a "we". People are entitled to their opinion and if they didn't find the movie good, then they didn't find the movie good. I saw the movie last night and I wasn't a fan of it. Next time, be more specific in who you're referring to instead of saying "we" like you're speaking on behalf of all of us and for us.

Us was mid … not terrible but just a lot of build up for a half baked payoff

I liked the CandyMan joint actually I though that was good

And I haven’t seen NOPE yet

But basically that’s a pretty decent track record …every drop won’t be a classic but as long as they aren’t straight WACK he’s good in my book …too many nikkas get caught in this binary classic or trash feedback loop …that’s shyts corny
I actually think Us had a great payoff/ending

It's the entire middle of the movie that sucks :russ:

Get Out itself was fine. The social commentary is woven into the premise but what puts Get Out over is it's sense of humor. There are messages but Peele himself said it wasn't as deep as people were making it

The pretentiousness of Peele's work shot up after the success of Get Out, but the fukked up part is it's not entirely Peele's fault. It's the fans too

I knew the Jordan Peele meta was headed down a dark road when the trailer for Us came out. Immediately twitter was filled with smart dumb, intellectual masturbation theories about everything. Nikkas was breaking down "I Got Five On It":mjlol: like it was college homework

I haven't seen Nope, but it's says a lot to me that I'm in no rush to and a part of that is because I don't wanna have a bunch of smart dumb ass discussions with everybody about the meaning of this likely to be mid movie:russ:

The other element of it all is Get Out created a sub genre of socially conscious black horror and most of that shyt is hot trash and unfortunately reflects back to Peele

Ultimately Jordan Peele got thrust into this role as the "New King Of Horror" and while he didn't necessarily buy into it, he did enjoy some of the spoils of being the emperor. Now we're seeing the emperor has no clothes :manny:

What does that mean? I thought people like Tarantino's dialogue. Like a LOT, actually
Lol this. Tarantino is arguably the best at dialogue in movies.

Topics like this let me know that the average movie-goer is actually dumb AF, and just repeats what they hear other people say lol.

In terms of this movie, the fact that people are genuinely confused what
Gordy
has to do with the main story is mind-blowing.

Stop with the victim complex. The movie was ok for what it was. Like a lot of movies released during the summer.
