That’s what happened to the first generation Caribbean kids. Grew up eating Jamaican food everyday. They just wanted a pizza for dinner once in a while but it’s the same thing every single day.
Foreal. It’s safe to say we losing recipes now. Women under 40-45 aren’t throwing down like that anymore.

Fats, salt, sugar, portion size...a lot of our "traditional" dishes need rethinking, especially where lifestyle is concerned. The older, "ancient" cultures have had the benefit of time to work out most of the kinks and know what works best for daily eating. We have not. So we have to make the time.

A huge part of that is getting comfortable with questioning your elders for their knowledge before they pass...and writing it all down.

I don't like the way Jamaicans prepare saltfish so that's fine by me.

Now stew peas n rice tho.....once every few months I eat that.
And typically over the weekend.

Buy on Friday n eat off it, Saturday too n then finish it on Sunday.

The portions are way too big to kill off in one sitting.

lol I mean really that's a portion control issue

American portions are ridiculous and nobody exercises
The key is portions. I remember grandmas China. Those plates no where near as big as the plates people use nowadays. People eat way too much food in one sitting. Just because you get a generous portion of food doesn't mean you have finish it all at one time. I would get big plates of food like that and take it to work for breakfast and lunch. Folks, please be kinder to yourselves and exercise discretion. Don't stretch that gut.

Jamaicans do not calorie count or think our food is unhealthy. I think this is guy doing a good job of breaking down the calories in our food because we only think of processed food as being unhealthy, but our food can be drowned in oil and fat heavy with fatty meats and added fats like coconut milk. Frigging delicious though. But the calorie count is high when you’re eating stew chicken and hard food for breakfast with a side of banana porridge, KFC for lunch and curry goat and rice and peas for dinner.

Now with all that being said the Jamaican in me is like
