The internet is two-fold though. It helped Obama in 2008 immensly... the issue is can the left get out of hibernation, organize and do something better than that?

Also, the money in politics has also ruined everything. Yes, America has historically been run by the rich but there used to be more constraints on them from the 1930s until Reagan. They won't be brought to heel unless there's a threat of revolution and ending the system we have right now.

The Republicans obviously mastered this with cutting taxes, funelling back into campaign contributions, taking over states, suppressing the vote, and having one party rule with gerry mandering. There's more right wing billionaires pulling the strings.

Like @mastermind said we need constitution changes... money in politics limited, election campaigns shorter, elimination of gerry mandering, voting rights act restored and sharpened, and I'd rather have a parliamentary system.

I remember having conversations about politics with Americans and an alarming amount of them repeated a phrase similar to, "oh trump and hillary is gonna be same either way who cares" ....

I dont think a lot of Americans understand that america is a republic where the president is head of the state and union. I think a parliamentary system would be great. however, Americans are geographically conditioned to vote the way they vote.

When the Social Security and Medicare trust funds and America goes through a debt crisis thanks to Trumps Tax plan of trillion dollar deficits politics will be even more hyper partisan and even violent. Imagine if they say there needs to be cuts in Social Security or Medicaid? There will be bloodshed in the streets. I cannot imagine what America would look like in a Latin American style debt crisis which leads to economic depression. Add this with white radicalism because their birth rates are getting lower “shyt will get realer than a chiller turn to a killer.” :wow:

It’s a scary known fact. Law enforcement, and military are very conservative. The scary thing is those right wing militias and guns all over this country. In Venezuela,Brazil and Nicaragua the governments there have government backed paramilitary militias whose jobs are to shoot arrest and oppress activist and the opposition. In Nicaragua there has been over 100 opposition protestors killed by these paramilitary militias. This shyt isn’t too far away in America. You already had right wing talking heads openly talk about shooting protesters during Ferguson,Baltimore etc.

There's already been proposed talks about ending medicare because it's too expensive moving forward in the future.

They're currently using Medicare is a proxy to gut funds from Medicaid through the installation of block grants.....

This what I fear the most, if and when America returns to a point where political opposition / activists are killed in the streets.

what is the American equivalent of "crossing the Rubicon?"

Caesar crossed the Rubicon and took control of Rome.
for those who don't know, the Rubicon is a shallow river that marked a place that Roman legions were not allowed to cross.

the American equivalent a Roman general crossing the Rubicon....what is it?
i don't think that we can directly compare what America is going through right now to anything that has happened in the past.

somehow trump has found a way to break every norm and get a significant segment of our population to say "fukk everything".

i'm just trying to work my mind around this.
any way i try to think about it, i just wind up saying one thing to myself...

fukk.

I would say if he lost an election or his terms were up and Trump refused to leave.
