We are headed into tribalism. When minorities were a small voting block, whites could split or claim to be splitting their votes along ideological lines. But since the minority vote is growing and the election of Obama despite record low votes from whites(38%), whites are banding together more than ever.
This is not a good thing. What happens with tribalism is that the people vote for “their guy” regardless of his or her qualifications or fitness for office.
We can see this with the decreasing quality of candidates that the GOP has put up recently for national office. Bush>>> Palin>>>>>Trump
