Have you seen the Vice documentary on Liberia? :lupe: What did you think about it and was it accurate?

It mostly focused on the civil war and that guy who was a cannibal though.
The one with General Butt Naked? Yea it's accurate:snoop:

It's actually quite scary how some of those same warlords are walking around all willy nilly and even holding political office now

In the Silver Lining
google "Liberia 77 documentary", the site has tons of pics from Liberia back in the day. It's a damn shame what happened to that place. Me being Liberian by blood, and American by place of birth, I feel it's my duty to focus on rebuilding both. Liberia can literally be The Black Israel, and it has enough resources where it can be self sufficient, the issue is zero infrastructure and corrupt govt using the money the Chinese are bringing in on themselves. How is it a nation that has an abundance of Iron Ore, Rubber, Diamonds, Gold, Cocoa, among other things and even recently Oil was discovered barely has roads and electricity?

Robert Johnson former BET CEO is actually in Liberia doing a lot of stuff, and is begging people to invest.

They had a P Diddy Day welcoming P Diddy to invest in Liberia, hell even during the War you had rebel groups such as the Tupac Army and the Biggie Army. Liberia would be the easiest place for Americans to work with, but as stated the infrastructure is so jacked, it will be a very difficult task.

:wow: ....... Why is Creflo Dollar talking about prosperity preaching and going to Africa to do missionaries, but not about economic empowerment or connecting AAs to Africans. :scust: .... Obviously, he is only one person, but needs something to happen. Yall are right, its starts with infrastructure ..... I'm taking a class now on infrastructure, its pretty much the end all be all of development, but they are skipping a few "traditional infrastructure" steps now with telecommunications/cellphones/computers as the starter infrastructure.

During the military coup most of the powerful Americo-Liberian families fled to America in the 1980s after President William Tolbert was assassinated for fear of being assassinated themselves.
Yep, my parents were part of the group that fled in the 80's...I was born in America, my Pops worked for the Gov't in Liberia and nearly was assassinated before he fled :francis:

Yea Firestone is still big here.

Where are you looking for land? I'm trying to buy some too, but there are so many people just sitting on their land it's hard to get in the areas close to the city.

One company is rolling Fiber Optics out now...Govt owned.
My pops is from Tappita and my mom is from Bahn so in those areas and i want something beach front, my pops is planning to buy some land along the St Paul River which he says is nice. Im looking to return home in 2016 or 2017 and plan to peep out what i can invest in. My moms father was a chief and had a compound in Bahn so i want to see what that looks like now. Idk how familiar you are with Nimba county, i did see you mention Ganta though.

Nice

I'm thinking I will purchase something in Marshall. My dad has land out there, but I want my own that I don't have to share lol.
I'd like somewhere I can go relax on the weekends.

I'm not familiar with Nimba though...we stayed in Ganta for 2 days, but I liked it out there...a good friend of mine is from out there. I think we passed through Tappita on the way back I can't remember.

@LiberianGirl What do you think of President Sirleaf Johnson? Is it true that she was a Taylor supporter? How popular is she? When are y'all gonna give my man George Weah a shot at the presidency?

HELLLLLL NO to George Weah
He just won as senator for the most populated county...he better be happy with that

Ellen talked a good game to get people on board with her. I honestly think the corruption is SO much here that at some point she just got tired and was like "fk it". She has lost a LOT of the support she once had but at this point I'm sure she doesn't really care. She already made her mark. And yea she was a Taylor supporter.

@Swirv here are some pics I took on my trip out there. Most are from Cape Palmas.

Looks beautiful. The other Liberian poster said 'Americo-Liberians' fled the country during civil war, while you said that they're still present. How many Americo-Liberians still reside there in your estimation? Do they still regard themselves as superior to other Liberians?
