Magneto, the racist zealot does not work as a X villain. While it's his original portrayal, the Claremont version is the most popular one and the one we see adopted by the movies and cartoons. (Although we've seen some writers revert back to the psychotic mass murdering version)

Magneto is a much better character and works as the X-men's polar opposite when he's either acting in retaliation or even if he's being preemptive, it is to save mutant lives. Remember he is supposed to be the alternative to Xavier's dream. So his stance must be one that is plausible. Remember he spent some time with the X-Men and even lead the New Mutants.

If you really look at the mutant related events in the MU Magneto was right to be more aggressive towards humans.
Even at his worst, you can't get away with calling him psychotic because he is right...mutants are GENETICALLY superior and the next step in evolution. And humans started the fight with Magneto long ago..he started wanting to work with them...wanting to find Nazi war criminals until they basically called him a "Mutie" and dismissed them in their effort to outlast Russia(I, Magneto). It was a costly mistake and turned him into the most infamous "terrorist" in Marvel history.

:dwillhuh: Magneto tried to kill humanity like a thousand times over, breh, how is he not evil? At best you can say that he fights the wrong way for the right reasons, and that's stretching it.

Matter of fact...

It's literally in the name of his crew, breh! :russ:
The 60s Magneto who had the Brotherhood is a whole different character then the definitive version that Claremont fleshed out and you see on the cartoons all the time. His reasoning is complicated in the fact that he was always right and by not proactiving protecting themselves, mutants get killed by the day just for being born.

Magneto originally started off as your run of the mill villain although his motivations were not selfish but he carried them out in a typical cliched villainous manner. It wasn't until Chris Claremont revived the X-men brand that he gave Magneto more depth. I think he was the writer that gave him the Holocaust background. So in essence it explained some of his more extreme actions against humans and added depth to his beliefs and motivations.

So it was this portrayal that aligned him abit closer to the philosophy of Malcolm X. He wanted segregation and to be left alone by humans not acceptance but if they showed any aggression toward his people he responded in kind sometimes overly aggressive.

X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills is a MUST read........to see an excellent portrayal of Magneto
There is a book called "Magneto #0" which is a reprint of two Classic X-Men Claremont stories called "I, Magneto" and a "A Fire In the Night" Those are why Magneto IS WHO HE IS and why he'll never be as weak as Xavier(Onslaught), Cyclops(after losing to Storm), and everyone else who quits when it gets a little too hard.

I know that, breh, but the point remains that at the end of the day he's a supervillain and by broad definition 'evil'.

I gotta read those...But In Uncanny X-Men #275 Magneto basically told Rogue he was no Xavier and was a fool for ever thinking he could be.

Also during Fatal Attractions (IIRC) Magneto asked Xavier to try his way as he once showed the courage to try Xavier's. That was a great scene and showed the layered character that he was......

They've humanized Magneto a bit over the course of years but he's still too much of a villain and a evil soul to be Malcolm X like:what:
