Id love psychological study done on who watches reaction videos (mental makeup) and the videos impact

The Tribe Effect.

It feels like a logical extension of the rise of the YouTube influencer genre.

99.9% of people watch online content alone. But things like livestream chat, interactive superchats, and....reaction videos, help simulate the "in-person" community aspect humans biologically crave.

Even this message board is a form of satisfying the same primitive need.

I agree with this. It's 2022. Technology has evolved in a way to where people have more social interactions through the phone screen then they do in actual real life.

reaction vids are a nice way to see how the community is responding to an anime, tv show, or youtube clip. It's essentially like harassing all the people you know to watch something you're interested in that they don't give af about, except reactors do it willingly. For money passion.

When you think about it's not too much different than watching First Take or Undisputed to see how they react to the previous nights games (because they rarely do deep analysis on there, it's mainly hot takes if we're being honest), and I'm not gonna lie there's some stuff I never would have watched by myself (judge shows, romance shows) that I only watched because someone was roasting the hell out of it on YouTube. For example, they had some show where this simp fell in love with an inmate that reactors were flaming.

You can question if some of them are really earning the money they're making (I mean some are racking in hundreds of thousands a year on Patreon, not even counting the YouTube ads, just to essentially watch tv and youtube), and they usually hire an editor to make the video. Soo...a lot of them really aren't even doing anything, but ultimately unless legislation changes they will continue to fill the market, and the more technology separates us and the less we go outside to make in-person friends the larger the market will grow and the more money they'll make.

In the future, I even see some small time shows paying reactors to watch and advertise it. It already happens for music, Imdontai said companies were offering him 10k to review music on stream. If you're at all interested in this, the time to start is probably now.

side note: completely unrelated anyone interested in making a group anime reaction channel ?

Reaction channels = the death is creativity on YouTube

Instead of actually working on original ideas for their videos, many """"""content creators"""""" just do reaction videos on whatever is already viral at the moment. They'll often just steal the most liked comments and act as if they're there own jokes as well:trash:

It's a niche category. If there wasn't a huge market for it it wouldn't be as big as it is.

I can definitely see how some could look at it as cheap and low effort though.

I've come to look at it as a "don't hate the player hate the game" type deal.

Some of these channels are literally making over a million dollars a year doing this stuff.

The views on some of these channels are ridiculous. Millions of subs.. imagine subscribing to a channel just to watch someone else watch something that you've already watched:picard:

shyt is crazy to me.

agree 100%

that shyt pops up on my YouTube all the time and I sometimes watch and always regret it

the reaction-ers don't even bother spending 30 seconds to look at a wikipedia page beforehand, so they're making all types of stupid assumptions

their takes are either garbage or they don't even bother making any

and like you said, these videos gets thousands and thousands of hits

I feel as though it's just as much about who's reacting then it is about what's actually being reacted to. It's 50/50.

One thing most of these big time reactors have is charisma and likability (at least on a superficial social media level). Some of the channels are couples and shyt and people love couples.

A lot of the more struggle channels struggle because the person just isn't as interesting or likable (or even attractive) as another person is doing the exact same thing. The shyt almost requires a certain level of acting ability on the reactors part.

not to mention most people have real lives and jobs and things and can't just sit around watching videos and movies all day and editing them and putting them online hoping that it takes off.

My lil bro said he watches Bleach reactions because it's quicker than watching the entire 12653 seasons and episodes again, which he clearly wants to do but works 2 jobs.

Sometimes I watch yaboyroshi anime reactions. Him Lupa and Sheera got jokes. :russ:

I fukks with roshi for the most part.

It's funny because there's another guy called yaboyrocklee who literally copied roshi's entire formula and he's sitting up making bank off it.

The whole scheme is formulaic. You just gotta to have the personality, equipment, and consistency.

Yeah I seen a couple of yaboyrocklee's vids. Theyre good.

I agree. As long as you got a good personality and entertaining youre gonna get a following. Just gotta be careful with the fair use stuff.

Right. And to my understanding since the whole reaction market is so big there's actually dedicated editors services who do nothing but edit videos to fit within the fair use guidelines and boundaries. They're eating as well.

In for potential plat thread

The biggest appeal of people watching reaction videos is getting that second hand excitement and hype

Yeah you're 100% right. It's like when you watch a movie that you like and then you watch it again with a friend and see what they think.

It's basically another natural human desire that these YouTube channels have found a way to tap in to.
