Interesting contrast between those 2 threads and this one
In here we have folks saying "I'm so tired of these slave movies and the media portraying the injustices done to our people"
And in those two you have folks saying" I'm so happy that the media is portraying the injustices done to our people"
They are all talk. They dont support black films made by black people. I remember watching spike Lee's miracle at st anna opening weekend and the theater half empty. I was amazed spike spike pulled off such a large scale battle scenes and made a real black ww2 movie. But when Spielberg dropped the cookie cutter and safe red tails all these negros were lined up around the block.
Jews and other groups never let you forget about their history. They drop 100 holocaust movies shows a year. I've never heard anyone say they are sick of holocaust movies. There is an active effort to downplay slavery and a lot of kids are growing up not being knowledgeable about it. Idiots like kanye saying it was a choice doesn't help matters. The kids dont know so that's why movies like this are important.
Folks talk all that talk about being on code... well not supporting this move is being off code. Even if you don't like the actress you should be focused on the bigger picture. The imagery and history is far too important and we don't see enough of it. We dont see black historical figures/ heroes on the big screen enough.
Also there is a narrative out there that slavery really wasn't that bad. Slavery was terrible and many Black people tried to escape. Movies reminding us of the severity of it isn't a bad thing.
It seems interesting that these historical Black figures who both rebelled against slavery in their own ways (Harriet Tubman and Nat Turner), once there are films about them all of a sudden there is some type of outrage regarding the leading actors.
Hundreds of people work on a film. It's a movie about Harriet Tubman, we only get one of these.
Its agents at work. Inventing new ways to undercut and discredit films of historic black figures made by black folks. They won't dig into other films they watch this way though... they will line up for disney/marvel films when we know how racist walt Disney use to show blacks in his cartoons with the sambo characters. Disney is still a heavily white Republican company too.
