It depends on the type of hospital and the type of community it serves. There are a lot of differences between For Profit, non-profit hospitals, state-run, and all the other different ways you can classify hospitals from one another. Even more, hospital systems and so on. A lot of costs put forth into different things and patient care are not readily recouped. Changes in payment systems plays a part as well. With the obscene costs of medical care, how are so many hospitals losing money? They are probably lying so they can import cheap labor. profits by any mean... People thought it was just going to be select industries like tech and construction, but if they can bring in cheap labor to pad their pockets they will do so.
The rollout for some hospitals in regard to EMR is mind-boggling shyt, especially since it should lower costs over time. Don't get me started on some of the costs put forth towards various equipment that aren't always needed. Complain about that and all you hear is "muh depreciation".These hospitals been spending large amounts of money on multiple facilities, EMR systems, and ridiculous operations. It's basically poor money management.
