/thread.

Most dudes in here turnt up read The Source every month. lol

The people complaining probably don't even do shyt locally for hip hop..they're just mad they arent in her position to culture vulture as well and make money off it , while they type behind a key board all day about "cac culture vultures" for free :francis: It's not about the protecting culture and preserving cause if they cared they'd go out and be pro active and contribute to local hip hop scene. Writing Zines etc Not continue complaining on a forum.

Same shyt different toilet.

Cacs don't have. A place in hip hop my pops was around that 80s NYC scene he told me once crackers got involved shyt went down hill

That's usually the case with any culture.

But at the same time, they're usually the ones that come in with all the money and shiny things to make
it more palatable to the other cacs they want to sell it to, so it's a double edged sword.

It's not even that deep...it's just that you can't be all "fucc these White folks trying to determine what's hip-hop"
and they got crates of The Source and still hold it as an authority when damn near everybody at The Source who started it
was white (or at least non-Black).

Who reads XXL magazine, I havent read that shyt since high school. :scusthov:

if it wasnt the source I didnt care.... :jawalrus:

Most media conglomerates and magazines are white owned the source had at least benzino and others... :sas2:

Benzino and Dave Mays equalled .5 black men. And Benzino was the same guy spamming his own music in the Source knowing hardly anybody was listening to it, along with basically crippling the Source in the process.

The only writers we cared about were the ones at The Source and they were mostly black and Latino.
I'm pretty sure that there was a couple of white dudes in the mind squad, not to mention interns and other shyt that were writing articles and reviews.
Not to mention the owners/founders, and for the relevance of this thread the person that owned "Unsigned Hype" was a white breh named Matty C.

Does she not realize she's damaging XXL brand? No one wants to associate Hiphop publications with middle aged white women. Did she not gauge the feedback when she showed her face on Hot 97? She probably doesn't give a fukk, just wants to get famous.

Benzino didn't create The Source he muscled his way in years after it had become successful. Source was created by two white boys in fukking Harvard :mjlol:

I said mostly.

The Source took their articles and reviews very seriously.

We knew who wrote what article and what review and the people writing those articles were mostly young blacks with a few Latinos.

As far as the owners, it was Dave Mays and Ray Benzino. A cac and a black man and the black man was clearly the one with the power.

The only confirmed cac that I know of was Matty C and he always got a pass because he was truly down for the culture and was not a culture vulture.

Mays and Schecter had the most power, Benzino's power came around the time the magazine started to peak and moving downwards like in 95. Downwards in terms of going from being a "real hiphop magazine" to strictly focusing on making as much money as possible no matter how.

I mean, if you're the founder of something, and a silent partner muscles you out when the checks start rolling in, who had the power in the first place?

Either way, the whole point of this discussion is that you can not compare The Source in it's heyday to what's going on in hip hop media today.

There are hardly no black voices of influence at these publications/blogs anymore.

They're being run by folks that I wouldn't even let hit my blunt, let alone take their word as the authority on what's poppin in hip hop.

I'd take Benzino and those fukkin Made Men ads over these weirdos any day.

i notice white people on this "real hip hop" steez have a white savior complex and they think they are doing us uncivilized kneegrows a favor by playibg "real hip hop" as if it didnt come from the black experience.

im been sick of these cacs getting on in black art and music based on their european american heritage and ability to exploit white privilege more than black folks qho actually have creativity, knowledge, and talent.
Well from complex to rap genius. They own the whole economy and I can't blame them. Game has been open for the taking while rappers only lined their pockets and didn't build on the game.

Most were just given fake ass labels that went nowhere to feel like they had a piece. In reality ownership had continued to be elusive. And the few that are in a position to change that pimp their own... From Birdman to J. Prince and the like. Publications like the source went from hip hop Bible to less than toilet paper. It might have never been fully black owned but it was at least respected and had clout. Now we have no influence in the media outside of social...

Cacs are breaking down what rap lyrics mean on genius and ranking our cultural heroes while trying to define the legacy. Rap has been around 30+ years. No excuse for this Nikkaz are still getting served crooked contracts like they didn't learn bout lawyers
