I would, and already have in this forum, gone into greater detail about my opinion on the matter, but judging from your lack of understanding (from the putin thread) about how central a countrys banking system and access to capital markets is to a funtioning, mature economy, I would really be wasting my time repeating myself.

Ill end with a final thought: all of you contrarians are dying to crown the next country as the dominant force in the world without realizing that these countries are nowhere near mature enough to compete significantly with the west. They're low cost producers and energy exporters. Their financial systems are weak to barely adequate. Assuming the west just sits on its hands, countries like China are still decades away. The only thing the brics have in common are that theyre the new kids on the block but their bond is supposed to stay strong enough to unseat a unified europe AND the US? Not buying it. I see China throwing russia to the bushes down the road. They dont need or want another world power on their borders anyway and they will outlive their usefulness at some point. In the interim, theyll keep buying our debt and well keep consuming the trash they export. Its been a lovely arrangement so far.

They were worried at the end of 2013 about china... but even tho China hasn't met its stated goals.. its still on track to be The Dominant economic force by 2016 and way ahead by 2023.

Russia seems to be playing good chess w them and India, supporting Asian trade in Africa and supporting certain mid east nations politically. I Don't see too many mistakes.
