I don't think you can compare it like that. the XBone should be selling more, its approaching half way through its life cycle. Comparing year 3 sales of 360 to XBone would be better.

6-7 years is standard life cycle for consoles. Microsoft/Soy should be entering their peak hardware/software sales this and next year.
Saying Microsoft sold 72% more software doesn't really mean anything. I can release a product, sell ten products one year and 20 the next year. 100% increase on sales, but it doesn't mean the product is a success. What matters a lot more is M$ internal sales predictions/expectations, how much of the market share the product has gained/loss etc.
The Xbox was 2nd. The Xbox 360 was 2nd and if the PS3 did end up outselling it that was after the support for the Xbox 360 ended. We don't know because last gen Sony was reporting console shipped numbers not sell through.They've never "won" the console war.
Came in third twice, they are now solidly in second place. Xbox one selling better than 360, first party games bringing in the most revenue ever, Xbox live subscriptions continue to rise.
Only thing they aren't doing is beating PS4

Og Xbox didn't sell much at all. I thought GameCube sold more. And x360 is still being supported.
But my point still stands. Xbox is more successful than ever in the past. There's absolutely no way you can claim its "dying"
