So tactically, what can the Cavs do to defeat the Warriors?

Independent of the Skip Bayless-style overreaction threads that clutter this unbearable forum, is there any adjustments Lue can make to make this series competitive?

Slowing the pace? (I've heard arguments for and against this)

Picking and choosing when to switch on defense instead of on every single pick?

Any lineup changes?

@Malta @Miami316 any others have suggestions :patrice:

First, wait for the real finals versions of Katey and Steph show up, and they will.

First adjustment that will be made from last game is stop the fast break points, which they will. Last night was fools gold for GS fans. Cavs played their worst and Kyrie hasn't even been unleashed yet.

Not to mention Lebron's turnovers will obviously go down.

Cavs in 6.

-Slow down the pace. There was a point in the 3rd where they panicked and every possession was just a random Cavs player bringing the ball up the court then immediately jacking a garbage shot up early into the clock. Actually, the entire second half they didn't run a single semblance of their offense. They panicked and tried to go shot for shot.

-Limit turnovers.

-Play the percentages in transition. They were giving Durant too many easy dunks to prevent transition 3s. Even the best shooters miss, a dunk is automatic.

-Periodically slide LeBron to the 4 and give Derrick Williams minutes at the 3 against KD. He's long and agile enough to guard him and can pick up fouls.

-Have their bench score more than 0 non garbage time points.

-LeBron actually giving effort on defense. What happened to the dude that made it his mission to punch Curry's layup every chance he got? Last night I watched him, within Curry's proximity several times, just stand there and let him get the easy layup.

It's just Game 1.

I think they gotta give Draymond Green the Barnes treatment if they have any hope. He's their worst offensive option(outside of Zaza/McGee, but they were giving them wide open looks at the rim and that isn't good) and he might make you pay but forcing him to beat you on offense is much better than letting Curry/Durant do it.

Offensively they gotta get the role players going early in GS. Bench/role players usually play much better at home than on the road, but they need flat out more production from them if they want any chance at all of beating GS.

Some good suggestions here. The argument against slowing down the pace is that when the Warriors defense is set it's extraordinarily hard to score on them. Thing is, slowing the pace and taking them out of their rhythm on offense may be worth it.

I still don't understand how Derrick Williams isn't getting minutes.

Instead of force-feeding Love, the first play of the game run a flare screen for JR for 3

slow the game down for sure - thats the main thing. you arent gonna outrun the warriors.
and limit turnovers, while forcing more turnovers on defense themselves. game 1 was a complete clusterfukk on defense for them.tons of transition points.

on offense they need to stick to pick and rolls. kyrie needs to attack the basket even more.
I dont know what they can do to stop KD tho aside from hoping he has a bad game. Bron is the only one on the cavs that can feasibly guard him and he was routinely beaten yesterday

Well one, the Cavaliers offense operates best at a slow pace. That's their natural style of play. That's how they started Game 1 and the teams looked pretty evenly matched. It was when they started to turn over the ball like crazy and panicked that they picked up the pace and they got slaughtered.
Two, the more clock an offense is eating up the more a defense is working which = more tired players on the offensive end and...
Three, more clock being chewed up = less Warriors offensive possessions, less opportunities for KD and Steph to get theirs. Sometimes the best defense, is your offense.

There isn't a team in the history of this league that can beat the Warriors on a consistent basis going shot for shot. Some nights you may get lucky. But the best route to take is just to limit their players opportunities to score altogether.

Stop turning the ball over
Stop the ball handler from getting easy dunks (KD) and live with a 3 pointer in transition
Slow down a bit
Stop giving up 2nd chance points
