So...we agree its 3 Series < 5 Series < S Class (in their class), right?

I'm trying to buy a e39 M5 or a e92 m3 but having a hard time choosing which one. Can anyone provide any valuable information on the e39 M5? I've driven a e93 M3 so I have an feeling of what the e92 would be like.

I've driven an e92 M3 and I didn't really enjoy the layout or the engine. Walked away from the sale really unimpressed.

I've driven one E39 M5 and a few random E39's 530, 540 sports that came in stick, they just seem like a better package, it's a lot more smooth and livable.

Kind played with the idea of picking up an e39 M5 as daily the last couple years actually.

As a nikka who's not that into cars but looking at getting a new ride, let me ask y'all this...why is the Cadillac ATS, XTS and CTS not in this convo?

Legit question cause I'm looking at BMW, Audi and Cadillac currently...does the Caddy just not compete with these cars?

German cars tend to overshadow American made in most peoples mind. And for years now German engineering has blown American out the water.

- With that being said, handling wise: ATS/CTS >>> anything German

- Interior Materials: German >> Cadillac

-Engine Performance: BMW/Audi >> Cadillac (V series is a beast though)

I owned a first model year ATS so I know the short comings but handling was a best.

:jbhmm: What's the shortcomings and if given the choice, would you pick the ATS over the BMW and Audi similar models?

The 2.0T engine 4 cylinder used in many of the ATS models isn't refined enough for my liking. And at the time that I had my ATS, the Cadillac CUE infotainment system was just so laggy at times. Also there were tons of recalls during my time (however some may see that as a good thing as they are catching mistakes). My engine even stopped while going through a traffic light one time. I restarted but scared me. I took it in and they found nothing but later a recall came out. I would not buy another 2.0T Cadillac. I'm sure it's ok but I also want more power .

I'm sure they've improved in these areas though, or I hope especially in the new ATS coupe. That thing is beautiful. Which leads me to another note, I think the exterior lines on the ATS beat out the 3 series and A4. Only imo the 4 series looks better.

But for me I'd take the ATS V6 coupe over the A5 or 3 series. Only the 4 series I'd take over the ATS coupe. And I'd take a CTS or A6 over a 5 series.

Exactly what I need to know:salute:

Cadillac is not that bad but its expensive to maintain too... Also the Caddy name brand not as popular as it used to be...

More expensive to maintain than the BMW and Audi?

It's a mixed bag. I had a Caddy and my brake light went out. The strand of LED lights on the back that light up when you brake.....costs $300 to fix. $300!!!!!!

I've had a VW, it uses Audi parts, and it's been a constant knick-knack issues the entire time. Constant CE lights, etc. Plus German vehicles with direct injection often have carbon buildup issues that over time hamper your gas mileage, performance, and you have to spend several hundred bucks to clean out carbon gunk.

I'll never buy a VW or Audi again, but I'd probably get a Cadillac again.

But in truth, I'll prob get a nice version of a Kia, Hyuandai, because of the warranties....or I'll get a Honda. I expect to get in a car for at least 60K and have little to no issues. My aunt also has a Buick that's nice as hell. Looks very young/modern and the ride is the super smoooooooth.

I'd go for the M3 all day.

e39 M5 is too old at this point.

Also, the e93 weighs I think 200 lbs more than the e92 so you'll definitely notice more power.
