We can "be real" about rap music once we can "be real" about the material conditions
that create the environments that create Gangsta rap.

Address inequity and strive for equality and a lot of the shyt y'all are talking about goes
up in smoke.

This idea that we can't do two things simultaneously tired.

We can address the conditions AND demand that this strain of entertainment not be the dominant representation of Black music.

You can literally rap about anything. However, I don't think this is a chicken or egg situation because we all know that all types of rap exists. I'm not even just talking about "conscious" rap. The fact that bullshyt is popular tells you what the market has selected.

When white people are racist, do we blame their parents for them being racist or is it the institution of racism that pervades every sector of this society that influences their behavior? Even the most liberal whites who don’t view themselves as racist can have racial biases and tendencies because of the system that we’re in.

Y’all need to view hip hop as an urban cultural institution at this point. Gang protocol, selling drugs, doing drugs, selling sex, baby mamas and daddy culture, killing opps, stealing, scamming, are all ingrained in this cultural institution and to deny its influence, even over parenting, is disingenuous at best.

Many people are in an abusive relationship with this cultural institution so they have a strong desire to minimize its culpability.

Y’all really about to come in here and say rap ain’t had no influence on these kids whatsoever huh
It has influence of course but we really need to stop taking the onus off parents who are letting entertainment and culture-especially negative-raise their kids. People do not like being told what to do with their kids, some think this shyt is cute. Now what can an average person say to this little boy’s parents for example?

We’re assuming all adults have reason and are sensible about what they let their children consume/emulate by the time they become parents-spoiler, they don’t.
