I agree, I'm fond of a lot of modern Network TV dramas cause I didn't have cable most of the time growing up, and even if I did, didn't know of forums like The Film Room so I had no idea where to check for dope cable shows :manny:

However in the late 90s there was a lot of black sitcoms so it wasn't necessary to watch the white sitcoms, nikkas :eat: good off of WB and UPN back in the day.
Yeah WB and UPN had The Parkers and Steve Harvey Show. Idk what happen to The PJs seem like that show cancel ASAP smh

Word, modern day rap like J Cole and Kendrick is Hip Hop at its worst? Not that shiny suit garbage Puff was putting out 16 years ago? Not the unlistenable nonsense that makes up 90% of No Limit's catalog? Not Laffy Taffy, released a decade ago?

:usure:
Crazy right. People calling Wale a safe negro because he likes Seinfield. This dude is pro black and doesn't rap about coke/killing on every song so he's the safe negro? :camby:

Cole going plat spitting pro black lines throughout. Kendrick has the number one album in America spitting pro black rap.

Wale penned these tracks:
Black heroes
Bricks
Shades
Diary
....but is a safe negro :what:

Is it any weirder than an obsession with Prada? Or an obsession with Gucci? Or an obsession with Hennessy? Or an obsession with Nike or Jordans? Or an obsession with Sonic? Or an obsession with wifing up strippers? Or an obsession with Scarface? Or an obsession with Mafia bosses?

This is the big one right here man. This one drives me crazy. Folks acting like Italian mob bosses weren't screaming n---er every other word and Molotov cocktailing black businesses.

Next thing you know rappers have the nerve to say nonsense like "I never prayed to god I prayed to Gotti"

Seinfeld is goat but like somebody said earlier, as a kid when that shyt was on I wasn't checking for it at all. Most people I know that fukk with Seinfeld got hooked by the reruns on syndication.

I just watched the episode the other day where George seen smoke in the apt and pushed the old lady and kids out the way so he could get out the apt.

The nikka ran over a old lady with a walker. :russ:

George might be the grimiest character in sitcom history
Seinfeld almost got cancel it's alot fake Seinfeld "fans" trying to sound enlighten because other people dont fuk with the show

yes it is. All the things you mentioned are common in the inner city & hood, and go way back with hip hop. Look up "Dapper Dan" for starters.

Seinfeld is a superb show, don't get me wrong. It's a bit of a leap though, in terms of Wale appropriating it for hip hop. It's very cacish for Wale to do so

I never said that. Frankly I think it's stupid to idolize Italian mobsters, but I understand why. Italian mobsters = crime. And what does the inner city have a ton of, especially at the time hip hop was created? Crime. With all the hype that gangsters have always gotten in Hollywood, the average American's fascination with crime, and the fact that the hood often experiences gangster shyt, I can understand the worship.

When was the last time someone in the hood related to the fact that the top of the muffin tastes best, so we should only make those, a la Seinfeld?

Seinfeld was a great show, but decidedly not made for the 'urban' audience. All the other things you mentioned were either made for or resonated with urban audiences.

I haven't watched an episode in years, but let's just say that the show is genius. Completely redefined sitcoms. I remember because I was trying to watch it in the late 90s, and just being confused as to why people found it funny. Little did I know that my teen brain couldn't comprehend that I was watching something much deeper than your average sitcom.

If you're gonna watch an episode of Seinfeld, watch the episode from the very beginning. Can't stress that enough. That was always my problem. I'd come in 5 minutes late. and by then, the plot was already too complicated and I would have no idea what the fukk was going on.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Seinfeld introduced the A, B and C plots in TV sitcom writing. I'm getting technical here on a screenwriter tip... but think about this. Prior to Seinfeld, you would watch a show that was centered on one person. e.g. Will Smith in Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Every episode had only ONE plot for the entire episode, and that plot always involved Will. For example, today's episode: "Will experiences an earthquake. Hijinks ensue."

Seinfeld came along and said: "OK, the show is about me, but really it's about New York City. And how random and interconnected life is in New York City". So an episode would start with Seinfeld observing something random that's actually important but we never think about: e.g. why can't we just eat the top of the muffins since they taste the best? Why do we have to eat the bottom part that sucks? So Plot A will be Seinfeld's exploration of that and the trouble he gets into trying to answer that question. Meanwhile, Elaine has issues with her new man. Her new bf's doing something random that's irritating her, and she doesn't want to bring it up to him but she can't help but be irritated by it. So that becomes Plot B. Kramer's trying to kick out a tenant. That's Plot C.

So basically you're watching these completely separate stories in one half hour, and they usually come together in the end. Funny as fukk! They were all cowards in their own way. Easily distressed about something random, but too p*ssy to really attack the problem head on. I'm laughing just thinking about this shyt. I gotta watch some episodes.

Just google Seinfeld and read more about it.

wish i could rep u for this :wow:
