i see y'all say this a lot about artist(usually only the ones y'all don't like) but please explain to me what this is supposed to mean?

Because I can think of several artist y'all respect that I've NEVER heard anyone in the hood play (I.E. Nas, Jay-Z, K-Rino, Lupe Fiasco etc)

But I have heard the hood play somebody like Drake, who everybody knows ain't from the hood.

So what exactly does that arguement mean and why is that supposed to be a diss?

K-Rino and Nas have got played in the hood. Jay too.

Getting played in the hood has merit or not depending on who in the hood is playing it. Like the general world there are a lot of sheep everywhere but there are also real street dudes for real or spiritual types in the hood. It's a complex question because it depends how hard people fukk with you and also if it's manufactured or real.

For instance Styles P and Jadakiss have got some real play, for the reason that people fukked with that shyt, not just because it was in or for "bytches". same with Mobb Deep, Scarface, Geto Boys, Pac, N.W.A etc.

If you haven't heard anyone in your hood play Jay or Nas then you're not really from the hood.

Also, Drake is a pop star who dominates the radio. He gets played everywhere.
You're under the impression that every single hood is bumping Jay-Z and Nas? :mjlol:

Taylor Swift is a pop star, and I've never heard her get play in the hood.
So the whole "dominating the radio" can't apply to who you want it to.

Most the type people who use that argument are the types who never left their city for more than a day and think the hood is the whole world. I

Like a rapper cares wether the hood is bumping his shyt or not when he can still sell out shows in his city, has a global fan bases & sell 100k+.

All that "the hood ain't bumping your shyt" in reality doesn't matter to a rappers success.

That's 1 song, there's loads of times K-Rino music gets bumped in cars, at shows, and numerous other locations, intentionally but even more so in Houston. He was even on Screw Tapes (was part of K-Rino's crew) and Screw got mad play.

Taylor Swift is not on Urban Radio now is she?

I've heard Justin Bieber being played in the middle of ENY just two weeks ago :heh:

Because he gets play on 105 and hot97 now which are the two urban HipHop&RNB stations in the city. Like I said, being a pop star is a part of it.

And no, You said you've NEVER in your life heard anyone playing Jay-Z or Nas in your hood. Like ever. I'd argue that you're not from the hood then. I don't know anyone who's from any hood that's NEVER heard anyone play Jay or Nas. Especially Jay

It sounds impossible.

Exactly.
It's a dumbass arguement that anyone from any region can use to shyt on another artist not from where they are.

I don't think it's that, and your ignorance/privilege is showing heavy right now.

Believe or not, that connection matters. Especially when you're someone who's from those things. The hood has a different ear than the GP does. If the hood loves it, there's a good chance that the GP will too. But because the GP loves it, doesn't mean the hood will feel it, which is why artists feed the streets/hood first.

Futures second run, or first depending on how you see it, went through the hood first. He tried the pop thing, but in the end went back to where it starts. Streets and it's paid off.

But this is thecoli. So cook.
