Xbox is done, they just gonna use the branding for prebuild PCs and portable PCs.

The "console" will probably be manufactured by someone else like the Handheld so they pretty much gonna sell or rent the brand.
So like, gaming PCs will have the XBox branding slapped on it to sell, right?

Im all for competition, so I have nothing against Xbox. I actually liked the 360 only for it to get the rrod

Im just wondering what the plan is. I read one comment that they might just slap their name on a gaming PC just like the handheld. Thing is, with no exclusives, why buy their PC or Handheld?

Are they purely going the software route? Just games with no hardware?
The plan is transition Xbox to a super premium niche device and sell games on anything and everything.

You asking why buy it? Why do people buy other pre-built gaming PCs?

Consumers don't want competition. They want to be able to buy a single device and get access to everything.

Yes, that's why their current services like play anywhere, xcloud and gamepass are such runaway successes. :russ:

Microsoft needs something like the 360 to regain a foothold in the gaming segment. I don't understand how they lost all that momentum (RROD not withstanding).

The Series X from a hardware perspective is not terrible though -- they mismanaged it badly.

Quick resume, Dolby Vision gaming, auto hdr, 4k 120hz with 10bit rgb that's better than 8 bit rgb at 4k 120hz with the ps5, vrr before Sony added that to the ps5, backwards compatible with all previous gen xbox consoles with enhancements, etc. A shame this console is going out this way. The acquisitions had everyone shook and yet this is the result.

:yeshrug: If the Xbox/Pc hybrid rumors are true, then I don’t see a problem with it. It’s obvious that Microsoft isn’t competing with PlayStation anymore. I mean Matt Booty said it… Now it looks like the big 3 all have their own lanes. Nintendo = the console/portable hybrid lane, PlayStation = the traditional console lane, and Xbox = the console/PC hybrid lane. Seems like Microsoft is going the route of selling an extremely premium niche product. To a niche audience/Xbox enthusiasts which are basically pre built PCs.

Obviously. :russ:I'm expanding upon what was posted because that's a waste of tech. Sony should incorporate some of those in the ps6, such as 10bit or better RGB at 4k 120hz, dolby vision, auto HDR etc. There were complaints of no vrr on the ps5 with the series x having vrr since release. Were there no competition, I don't think Sony would care.

What does that have to do with their Xbox hardware plans? It's gonna be like Nvidia with the X090 level cards. Super premium product that sells to a select few and in manufactured at a rate to reflect that.

Sony will end up more like Nintendo than anything. Nintendo does whatever it wants, doesn't listen to customers, doesn't really need to innovate or adapt to anything because who is the competitor pushing them to do so? The Steam Deck sells in its entire life what the Switch sells launch week. Nintendo does brazenly greedy stuff now because why not?

That's natural for corporations that don't face any real competition. At this point Nintendo has put out the most iterative in its entire life. The Switch 2 is basically just a better spec Switch. They're basically Intel if AMD didn't exist.

Cerny said quick resume was actually intended for PS5 at one point but got prioritized out.

10bit RGB w/ VRR at 30/120hz was a hardware limitation I think. Well most likely get this for sure next gen.
