I would like to see Xbox, take the steam deck angle for handheld but do that for a console.
They could make the Xbox Deck 1.0 and license it out to whoever wants to make it as the system baseline spec, provide those who meet licensing requirement access to game pass sdk to ease adoption and integration and let 3rd parties handle the hardware entirely while they focus on software and distribution. Then they could announce after 5 year or 7, Xbox Deck 2.0 is coming, and rinse and repeat, with upgraded Deck 2.0 being the next Gen.
As long as the specs are locked down or have a baseline, it should assist all the hardware manufactures and customers.

In all fairness…. If they told all their plans….. Sony or the opposition will have time to pivot and counteract them…. In many ways plan to beat them at certain things.
Think about like if the movies the villain does a monologue of their evil plans before they executed and how the hero beat them

The competition aspect is interesting. I also think it’s going to suck for gaming lol. And I say this as a Sony guy. Sony’s triumphant return with the PS4 wouldn’t have happened without the miscues of PS3 and XBOX being on their ass.
But overall I’m happy for the time being. I just want to play all my games on one console.

The plan is to continously shift strategy until they find one that brings in the desired profit margin.
If they sold 150 million Series X consoles, they'd be gearing up for Xbox Series Why. The pivot wasn't some preplanned move. It was a move AFTER it was clear they wouldn't unseat Sony or Nintendo.
Fortunately for them, M$ has a big enough war-chest to continue tinkering until they find something that works.

A lotta the same dudes in here saying a bunch of nothing as usual.
And of course people liked the 360 it had everything built into it, Xbox live, it was a media hub, it came out earlier for cheaper, it got exclusives and multi platform games, it had wireless controllers and backwards compatibility.

The idea of a “high end” console/pc hybrid is something people been clamoring for, for years.
Of course the usual suspects will search for an angle to hate. But if they get the power vs Price right(and fix windows for a real “game mode”) Then this could be a GOAT console.

360 at this point has proven to be an anomaly. It is what it is. And truthfully it was the front half of the 360 too.
