It's prolly close to impossible to say who originated a saying as fukking generic as "what up doe"...that it became a "thing" in detroit is irrefutable, saying that they originated it is another thing entirely...it's a general ass phrase that's been used by some of everybody since time immemorial....basically what I'm saying it BEEN nationwide, became some trendy in detroit years ago and eventually adopted as some local signifier...now some people use it deliberately with Detroit in mind and others just it because it's common ass saying
