So what's really the incentive for being a lyrical hip-hop great?

I think a part of it is the "white goats" have fanbases that like them throughout their lives (from a young age to an old age) and with rap, you're supposed to grow out of it (not saying people should, just that there's an expectation for people to grow out of liking rap). It comes from rap starting out as anti-establishment imo. It was seen as youthful rebellion, not just music.

And unfortunately there's a disconnect (and lack of respect) with these younger fans of rap with the roots of hip hop. It wasn't always like this but it's getting worse & worse. That's why you get these comments like: "no one wants to hear what these old rappers have to say" which is ridiculous & sad but it reflects the mentality of these so called "rap fans" now.
