This what i thought most people would say.

I woke up and was listening to heavin for a gangsta by P, and I directly see how this should influenced the trap sound today.
It was slower of course, but had similiarties, mainly the bells and shyt

:dead: :heh: @ the atl heads in this thread. trappin IS NOT limited to only atl rappers. thats like saying gangsta rap is limited to only cali rappers. all the rappers in no limit started what we would call trap music, no question about it. not so much early no limit, that was influenced heavy by gangsta rap, but when they were picking up in popularity their sound changed. the 808s became more prevalent in their beats and they started to raise their voice on the tracks. its not the same trap music of 2012, but they were the first to make music like that.


but if we are talking strictly about atl trap, gucci, ti, and jeezy created it

the kids diss the 80's rap cuz of the vocal cadence NOT the production cuz lots of indie/club/dance songs are using the exact same presets and drum kits(Roland like you mentioned) but adding more 90s tech/house synth patches, that's where all them jeezy and 3-6 mafia sounds are coming from.

youngins dont f-ck with the 80s rap becuz of the flows and them kurtis blow whodini type accents, it just sounds hella old now.
off topic but if you listen to Kendrick Lamar his flows are like early 90s madcap style like LONS or early Common Sense- all from a 2012 perspective of course but anyways.....

Yeah but a lot of the trap rappers rhyme just like old school rappers. Gucci mane sounds just like an early '80's rapper. The simple rhymes, the flow, just like them and people love him. Most, not all, trap music is updated old school to me with a mix of west coast gangsta rape(image) and three six mafia(slowed down old school 80's rap). I think it's the image and what they are talking about that fascinates people, but the actual music is really old school shyt.

This started the bounce music and New Orleans sound which influences a lot of new rap which bites off of trap music. Even that "Alright" sample that everyone uses come from this record which was released in 1986. After sampling came in and Rakim got big, this sound died, which is why 1987-1988 was so pivotal, It was the years that rap changed it's sound lyric wise, flow wise and music wise, into what we know it as today.:

Kendrick's flow is on some '90's stuff but he's nice. Damn near everything is a rehash of old school which is.why I think everything is so bland. Back then every few years new sounds came out, now, it's just something I heard before even when it's good. I guess I'm looking for that new shyt that amped me up like it used to.

I would say the organ synthy church vibe production started with geto boys.

ugk then had the next sorta explosion production and indepth content wise as well.
Plus I feel pimp c's church organ based stylings are overlooked in the origin of trap music's sound.
As well as early geto boys producers in the early 90's.
To even beats by the pound in the mid to late nineties.

This is all regional, in discussion of course.
As pretty much all rap had drug content From its inception.
Yet, to distinctly give the south its own base historically.
We should point to the geto boys, nationally. Who along with scarface pretty much segregated the south into a real recognized region.
Instead of being just originally lumped in with the west coast originally.
Or, most gangsta rap groups were considered west coast artist if they were not from ny, as well.
As originally the geto boy were considered a west coast gangsta rap group.
That later unified and coined the south as a region with Florida.
Which kinda gave luke and Miami bass.
More ability to segregate into being accepted in two circles as part of the culture originally,..miami bass was not thought of as rap at all.
Nor, accepted in hip hop culturally content wise or sonically, either
It was called bootie music, or bass music to be polite.
DJ magic mike, to DJ jimi all were considered pioneers of bass.
Which gave way to DJ jimi, and other southern dj's making tapes.
Which then gave way to screw tapes.
Which soon sorta sprouted into what we call southern production.
Imo,...i feel triple six mainstreamed and gave the south its production scope and ultimate direction. Which imo, is a mash up of early ny 90's call and response anthem chant hook making. Mixed with horrorcore showbiz to gravediggaz to freestyle fellowship/westcoast shop content and DJ uneek of bone style records and production. Which gave it a harder edge and its identifiable horror movie score scope and direction. In what is now considered the main identifiable sound of trap music.

Yet there are hordes of production styles And content bases that birthed or originated in other regions.
I feel southern trap music has gotten its sound from. That is overlooked.
Yet when you look at the influences of a group like triple six.
You can see how closely related they are culturally in origin to rap's essence in hip hop.

I feel even a group like Dayton family although a Midwest act.
Produced records that could be considered early inclusions of what trap music, is content wise, as well. as I feel Dayton family had a distinct flair for making what was similar to geto boys style music. Or southern music before the south was recognized as a region. Plus could easily be interchanged with groups like the geto boys, ugk and the convicts.
plus, other Michigan acts like esham and natas, and even nip.
All made submissions based on horrorcore style gangsta records with heavy violence and drug content. Which also included the horrornovie score style of what would be later identifiable as the prevalent sound of trap music.
As, trap muaic or horror movie score or horrorcore style production starts to become the main staple sonically for rap.
Trap music will soon not just be branded to just the south as a genre.

As we are living in a day and time. When, across the world!
The production, content and scope styling of what is termed trap music.
Has become the prerequisite sound and scope for most of rap music made in this day and age.
