This is a super vague question, you've got to define trap first.

I mean did UGK even use the word Trap until Tip and them made it hot? Isn't that an Atlanta term?
As long as it's 808 driven beats, fairly high tempo and the subject of matter is the trap is usually the definition we go by today right..

Per how we define trap today, it's got to be Jeezy, T.I., Gucci and them. By a very broad definition, Three 6, UGK, Scarface..?

It's too hard with the cutoff points, someone says Jeezy then you have T.I., Then you have three 6 and Master P/TRU, then you have UGK then you have Face and then multiple different underground cats.

Who was the 1st to put the WORD trap in a song title or put it in the title of their album?

T.I. right?

Were there rappers in ATL describing the act of distributing non-government regulated narcotics as "trapping" before T.I.?

If so...can anybody post any examples? I know alot of 90's era Memphis rappers would say the word "trap" every now and then in a song...but never heard it in a song title or seen it on a album or tape cover.

Now the SOUND of trap music is thudding 808 basslines over cinematic instrumentals + dopeboy raps with catchy repetitive hooks...Squeeky, Zirk, Paul, Juicy and an assortment of other Memphis artists from the 90's were doing this style of rap before anybody i can think of...

Duval via Queens
Drumma Boi, Shawty Redd, Zay, Lex, 808 Mafia etc + Random nikkas rappin bout bricks, slangin etc = Trap shyt

I would agree that Jeezy was the first to really get out there with that "trap" sound, I also agree that Triple 6 pioneered it along with some other M-town groups. It blew up outta ATL though

no limit records

Mr. Ice Cream Man. :myman: but I think it depends about what you mean. if you mean rappin' about trappin', you could go all the way back to guys like Jay Z, Biggie, Too Short, Bone Thugs, etc. If you mean the southern style with the adlibs and all that sh*t, yeah definitely T.I./Jeezy.
