Was watching the slam Dunk contest and felt the same way. shyt seemed like a bunch of dudes dunking in practice rather than a show/competition of the world's best athletes. These dudes were so casual and cool, that shyt was so boring and corny and the fans knew it too.

Has anyone mentioned AAU culture, HS games on TV etc? Back in the day guys were themselves because there was no alternative while today many of the top guys have been handled and coached since middle school. When Chuck came in he was a fat, pugnacious, shyt-talker from the South. Bird was literarlly a hick from French Lick. Magic was a effervescent nikka that smiled a lot. That was just who they were. Players back in the day were allowed to be actual people before they became stars. They were allowed to build genuine dislike for their peers around the country before interacting with them. You look at a guy like Lebron. He's been conscious of his image and brand since he was in high school. He's been hanging around with Melo and CP3 and company ever since then. He basically grew up with these cats. How do you expect cats that grew up together to act like they hate each other?

Alot of this personality that nikkas speak of was also a function of things that are pretty much no longer allowed...taunting and fighting. nikkas will get T'd up for talking to much shyt and most certainly for being demonstrative and moving to far from the bench during a fight will get you suspended. Just imagine the T's that the GP/Kemp Sonics, for example, would get now. :wow: Dikembe wouldn't make it out of the first quarter. :why:

All that said, this rash of "The NBA sucks now, it was so much better back then" threads reeks of nostalgia gone wrong and nikkas not truly being fans of the sport but more so certain personalities that they latched on to as kids. A lot of nikkas who dismiss Dwight as a bytch ass c00n would probably be his biggest fan if they were kids today. And 10 years from now they would be talking about "Man they just don't make like Dwight anymore :to:". NBA is better now (injuries aside) than it's been in a while. :heh:/:comeon: at nikkas acting like the one star per team era when the Finals was a foregone conclusion in November was better than what we have now.

Dudes are just pussies nowadays. Everyone's scared to be embarrassed. Blame it on social media all you want, but we got a generation of weak-minded nikkas scared to do anything that might get re-tweeted. Millionaires are scared about what some jobless 16 year old might say about them on the internet.

In the 90s, ewing, zo, mutombo didn't give a fukk if they got dunked on. They were going for that block. Maybe georgetown centers are a different breed and coach thompson turned these kids into men, but everyone today is scared to get dunked on.

Then you have lebron who's scared shytless to enter any individual contest, yet wants everyone to know how well he would perform hypothetically speaking. Jordan didn't give a fukk about losing in front of people. Dude lost a dunk contest and a 3 point contest. 0 fukks given. Most players want to be seen as perfect, but not attempting shyt doesn't yield a 100% average.

Dudes are funny. When cats have outgoing and gregarious personalities they're "cornballs." When they're reserved or chill personalities, they're boring. When they don't give a fukk they're stupid. If a dude does dance or smile too much for your liking, or not take every game like the fate of the known universe lies in the balance, they're a c00n. It's like there's no middle ground. Everything is to the extreme. If Dwight Howard did the same thing Gary Payton did in the locker room tomorrow night y'all would be like:

.

When LeBron and them danced a few years ago at the introductions y'all were probably like:

or

I mean, what the fukk do y'all want? :wtf:

I truly believe as a celebrity or athlete or whatever, you have to put your own happiness ahead of others. People are so mercurial that's there's really no need to try to appease them. If they like you, cool. If they don't, fukk 'em.

LMAO @ these pics....:laff:

nikkas get dunked on all the time so I'm not sure what your point was there.

You think Mike is doing all that shyt if he's held up as "The Chosen One" from the time he was 16 and aware of and working on his brand at that age? nikkas had to enter dunk contests back then to get their name and in turn get their money up. Bron had $100 mil on deck before he ever dribbled a ball in the NBA. Once Mike was established as a player and brand and getting that bread you didn't see him in any more dunk contests.

Dudes back then were men when they got to the league both age wise and mentality wise. Dudes today are man-children that have been coddled and spoiled since they first showed that they had talent. Mike didn't know what that jobless 16 year old said about him. Today that jobless 16 year old's comments are re-tweeted over an over again and the first topic on First Take.

Stop it.

"I'm afraid of failure."

How old are you? Your level of plea copping for another grown man is disgusting.

Where are the pleas? :wtf: *looks forward to no response like every other time I ask for evidence to support similar claims*

What's disgusting is your level of disdain for guys who you don't know and who has done nothing to you all in the name of riding for your lord. It's to the point now where if you saying anything other than "Yeah Lebron sucks...weak ass nikka!" you are copping pleas. :what: If the nikka did do the dunk contest you'd be one of the main ones talking bout ":rudy: shyt was weak. How did he win with those weak ass dunks? :damn:"

How old are you when a person listing facts that account for the differences that you are harping on is plea copping? What pleas are there to even cop? :dahell:

Where are the pleas? Your entire post is one big plea. If it weren't for all the smileys you use, your post would be as dull as it is irrelevant.

"nikkas had to enter dunk contests back then to get their name and in turn get their money up"
Jordan had a signature shoe deal before the season began, was called the "best ever" by larry bird in his rookie season before playing in the all-star game, was 3rd in scoring as a rookie, and was the most electrifying player in the league. His name was well-known. He didn't need the dunk contest. He did it for the competition. He entered the 1990 3 point contest. His name was well-known and the few thousand of dollars he would've made off of winning that would be nothing to him at that point. He did it for the competition.

Mike didn't enter anymore dunk contests, not because he was already established and got his "bread up" - that's just conjecture on your part.He already won it 2 times. He proved he could win it. No lip service like lebron. lol @ the "bread" motivation. Dude was a millionaire, $10k or $25k whatever it was, was nothing to jordan. Plea copping.

"Dudes today are man-children that have been coddled and spoiled since they first showed that they had talent."
Which is what I essentially said in calling today's players weak-minded.

"Mike didn't know what that jobless 16 year old said about him. Today that jobless 16 year old's comments are re-tweeted over an over again and the first topic on First Take."
Plea copping and just furthering the opinion that lebron is mentally weak. Mike wouldn't care. He dresses like a clown now. There's memes about how he dresses all over the internet. He doesn't care. He's not mentally weak. When you learn how to face adversity as a child, nothing someone says to you as a man - especially if it's said by a child - will affect you.

How old are you?

Here's the rub...when did I say Lebron wasn't mentally weak? :leon: If you weren't so interested in shytting on him and polemics you would see that I wasn't disagreeing with you as much as I was explaining the basis for what you were saying and removing the fundamental attribution error from it. If Bron had grown up in Jordan's day he would have had to be tougher just to survive in the game. Jordan probably doesn't have the same edge if he was on the AAU circuit and "The Chosen One" according to SI at 16.

Honestly if he's not confident enough to enter (which is silly because as long as he made all of his dunks he'd win) then I don't wanna see him out there. :manny:
