I hate to break to you fellas. But 23,000 is not a good look for the Xbox One over here. In all honesty they should have just kept to the release in China and waited a bit for Japan. Consoles are shyt over here and it's all about handhelds, but they can probably sell off some of that surplus they have in some of the American stores. But 23,000....naw
The fact that Xbox One only sold 23,562 units in Japan during its first week still shows Microsoft has a lot of work to do to penetrate this market. Japansese gamers have never been fond of the Xbox brand and it look like they’re not into the Xbox One too.
In comparison, the PS4 sold over 309,000 units in its first week whole the Wii U sold a 308,000 units. Microsoft is hoping to gain some steam with TGS later this month.
A NeoGAF poster actually collated previous first week openings for home consoles over in Japan. The Xbox One has the lowest opening compared to every home console released since 1998.
The previous lowest opening was the Xbox 360 selling 62,215 units in its first week. The original Xbox did far better selling 123,929 in its first week.

Xbox is not loved over here at all.
I don't understand why they released it over there in the first place. You'd think that Microsoft would get the picture and realize that Japan want's nothing to do with Xbox over there. Even moreso now that handhelds and mobile gaming have taken over, making the console scene over there look like the arcade scene in the states.
Maybe it's because they felt obligated due to their partnerships with Japanese publishers like Capcom and Square Enix.
