what are the media features? he can plug his cable box that already works into the back of his Xbox One? The media features is just a company using marketing spin to convince you that you're getting value in something you already own and are paying for.

basically they're like well let you plug your already working cable box you pay your cable provider for in out box and you can watch your cable box through our box. dog that's fukking nothing.
Blah blah blah blah blah. This doesn't even warrant a decent response.

Cause that man just ethered ya ass with that last paragraph :banderas:

I mean real talk you plug your cable box up to their box and it overlays a guide over the picture from it and if you pick something on their guide Kinect's IR blaster sends your cable box the command to go to that channel. that's what's commonly referred to as a Rube Goldberg machine for what's actually nothing more than a universal remote.

Your cable box already has a guide and a remote .Also the Xbox One has no access to DVR functions. I guess the difference is you can split your screen wand watch TV and play a game at the same time squishing up both screens and making it harder to see either.

If you wanna watch TV and game at the same time a better solution is buy a computer monitor or another TV and plug your box up to that. Hell even add a Harmony remote to it.

Your cable box guide is trash. You cannot control it with voice. You cannot make your own guide with only the channels you want, and when you have your tv switched to the cable box you are totaly disconnected from all of your other entertainment options.

Xbox one brings all of it together. And buying more equipment and working with a complicated setup is not a good solution for the majority of people.

With each post you try your damnedest to downplay these features. But the masses will take to them and will love them.

You sound like one of the guys who said the iphone wasn't needed cause your computer can already do all of that. And now we see where the iphone is. Xbox one can revolutionize the living room the same way apple revolutionized mobile devices.

I don't need to control my cable box with my voice. I can make a guide of only the channels i want its called a favorites list. As for me being disconnected from my other entertainment options nah my AV receiver has multiple HDMI ports and i have a PC plugged up to it as well as all the devices in my entertainment setup. With a harmony remote everything is a single button press away. the same Harmony remote that can control my PS3, Xbox 360, AV system, both my TVs and even my PC since i have an IR receiver on it.

Perhaps you should look into the Kinect and how well it works. both Engadget and The Verge say its problematic and inconsistent. In fact Engadget went as far as to say why bother using it for commands when the controller works 100% of the time and the Kinect doesn't.

I don't know about you but i don't just have an Xbox One and a cable box plugged up to my TV and that's it. I have 5 game consoles and a PC a cable box a sound bar and an AV receiver on one TV. the Xbox One can handle a cable box and one TV? pass when my Harmony Touch can control them all with single screen touches and button presses.

YOU ARE NOT THE AVERAGE CONSUMER.

and plenty of people have said kinect works very good. There are videos of kinect working good. I'll let you know how it works for me and my family(the average consumer) on Friday.

Ok here's just a few on the reasons i'm not plugging anything up to the HDMI out on the Xbox One

1. Can't control DVR functions on cable box.
2. Doesn't output Dolby digital surround sound from HDMI out (or even optical out)
3. Voice commands inconsistent and unreliable. Stated on REV3's review, The Verge's review, and Engadget's review.
4. Noticeable controller lag on HDMI out.
5. Doesn't interface with other devices in the living room (other game consoles, HTPCs, ect)
6. A guy on the official forums asked about AV receiver control and the question was ducked by tech support.

yeah this thing might revolutionize your living room if all you have in there is an Xbox One, a cable box, and a TV but add in other game consoles, a HTPC or a home theater system and it fragments your setup because it can't interface with all of it.

I think the console is fine. I thought it was fine when it was all digital actually but i think the media functions are junk. cheap parlor tricks to impress simple minded people or people who don't know better. set up your room properly and a Logitech Harmony remote will do a much better job controlling everything possible to be controlled through IR and possibly even the PS4 in the future.
