speculate final combat mechanics based off pre-alpha footage brehs :russ:

this is like basing FF 7 off the N64 demo that dropped around 96

Actually it was kinda meh and made the game rather easy. The game was average as hell too. Sorry if you guys prefer the old ways but the genre is evolving.

The game is supposedly 50-60% done so what you saw is more or less what we're going to get outside of a few tweaks unless they put the game back in development hell.

The game wasnt that easy breh. It was only easy if you mastered your strategies and over-leveled. The genre isnt evolving, the genre is DYING. And a lot of that has to do with Square. Meanwhile if you look at JRPG's that are succeeding, like Shin Megami Tensei IV and Persona 4, they are turn based. For its flaws, Bravely Default is still the best thing Square put out in years, and of course they werent even the primary developer :mjcry:

Please tell me yall have played Lost Oddyssey if you are 360 users. That was a Final Fantasy game, not this homoerotic roadtrip yall are tryna get hype over.:manny:

And the battle mechanics are something that is worked on just as much as the graphical fidelity. A part of me wanted turn based as well but then i though about how fun FXIII was in battle (shytty everywhere else, but still), and I think this can work. Thinking there will be only one spell or one weapon, would be murder on the RPG elements. I think to not assume that there will be weapons and various spells and strategies to kill different enemies would be silly and not giving enough credit to the company.

Also remember this is a company that almost went kaput because XIII and XIV 1.0 were so shytty. Now that they done recouped some of the money from that (and then some, because XIV 2.0 is SLAPPING) i think you'll see the dev speed up alot more. I also think that the game is closer to being finished than they are letting on, I see a September-Novemeber drop.

Battle systems have nothing to do with niche games seeing diminishing returns as hardware evolves. And Atlus said SMT4 didn't meet sales expectations :ld:

Niche games my nuts. Whats the highest selling shyt on the Vita? Final Fantasy x remake and persona 4? And we gonna act like children around the world arent playing that new Pokemon XY? Which is completely turn based? The market is there friends.

They are niche games now because Square dropped the ball hardbody. Nobody else has the budget to drop that killer JRPG. Thats why Lost Oddyssey wasnt as good as it could have been. They didnt have the guap.

Meanwhile, Street Fighter 4 is 2d and it revived the fighting game genre. Mario 2d games still selling like hot cakes. But we cant have turn based battles? BULLLshytTT :stopitslime:

Why would you want to line up your characters and see which side falls first like its the civil War when they're offering a system where you can actually interact with the huge world that they're offering? It kills the flow of the game.

Reminds me of chess. I see the validity in both systems. I'm not a fan of all RPG's being any one system, in a perfect world there's good turn based and dynamic systems. But I guess the new Persona will have to fill my turn based itch. :manny:
