FFX was when Square and FF took a turn for the worse imo but that's a completely different discussion.

Reminds me of chess. I see the validity in both systems. I'm not a fan of all RPG's being any one system, in a perfect world there's good turn based and dynamic systems. But I guess the new Persona will have to fill my turn based itch.

There's still gonna be good turn based games this gen but these console games with massive budgets like FF and Xenoblade will not have them and that's pretty much a guarantee.

Just like @MANIAC said, this sounds like Xenoblade Chronicals. But if I'm remembering correctly FFXV was supposed to be developed concurrently with FFXIV. So I was expecting the a continuation of the last game's battle system. Well...at least we have Bravely Default 2 to look forward to.

I was waiting on a return to form for SquareEnix, especially since they were saying they were going to turn it around. Pokemon is turn based....and that shyt sells like CRACK. Hell nintendo is thinking about making a pokemon console...that's how serious it is.

So why is everyone complaining? I like turn based too but real time is the best possible way to show off what the PS4 hardware is capable of..

People wanted Devil May Cry/Kingdom Hearts type gameplay but that got scrapped when they went back to the drawing board and Versus became a mainline entry.

It really doesn't matter to me tbh, at the end of the day I just want the game to come out and be fun.

Anything is better than that Lightning trilogy trash.

The game wasnt that easy breh. It was only easy if you mastered your strategies and over-leveled. The genre isnt evolving, the genre is DYING. And a lot of that has to do with Square. Meanwhile if you look at JRPG's that are succeeding, like Shin Megami Tensei IV and Persona 4, they are turn based. For its flaws, Bravely Default is still the best thing Square put out in years, and of course they werent even the primary developer

Please tell me yall have played Lost Oddyssey if you are 360 users. That was a Final Fantasy game, not this homoerotic roadtrip yall are tryna get hype over.

The game was a snooze fest, great concept but the characters were uninteresting and reading those novels they through in instead of creating a narrative for it killed it for me.

I understand gamers have preference but I'm really not seeing any strong arguments against this type of battle system. The entire demo they showed was to justify it and show what its capable of.

We're getting freedom with the camera, dodge and cover mechanics, requesting ally assistance, as well as teleporting. These are all good things imo.

Battle systems were changing last gen and will continue to do so and its not like we havent seen this before. This was even happening on the PS2. You're pretty much seeing the evolution of this.


Hopefully Square does the right thing and brings Star Ocean back this gen

Valkryie profile 1 will forever have the GOAT turn based battle system

Matter fact Valkryie profile had the GOAT system period

The fact that u can pick up characters and basically choose ur roster

the fact that each character had their own traits and strengths

Maaan Valkryie profile is easily the best Jrpg of all time

Jus thinkin back to how i was styling on bosses with delicious combos

So were the last few Final Fantasy games but you were when the new trailer was released. The game can be legit if they put the right devs on the job.

Thing is, even if they went with a traditional turn base battle system, they would still be whining because it's not real time like they were promised. And if they went full action game like DMC and KH they would whine that the game is too button mashey and not Final Fantasy. Matter of fact, that was the exact reaction to the trailer from last year's E3.
