Sonic 1,2,3 and Sonic & Knucles go toe to toe with Mario 3 and Super Mario World IMO

If y'all like Sonic 3k, then you owe it to yourselves to hunt down "Sonic 3 Complete." I don't know what the emulator rules are here, but a quick google search will get you there.

As for the topic, I don't know if I'd say that Sonic 1 is better than Mario 1, but I'd say that in general I agree with the statement that they go toe-to-toe with Mario 3 and World.

Bobby Brown every lil step?:lupe:

I take it you never heard the mashup someone made?

The MC Hammer/Flying Battery mashup is even better.

:camby: sonic

You couldn't save your progress in Sonic. shyt got old when you have to start all over every time you wanted to play.

Idk about everyone else, but that's the origin of speed runs for me and my friends. It never got boring because we would fly through those missions and be on some highlight reel ish and back then you needed a witness in the room when you did some craziness.

i remember all of that...basically he made all the music then backed off due to molestation rumors, but they used it anyway and an bunch of jazz..its good..the whole sonic thing gets odd with the sonic and knuckles/sonic 3 thing. i aint mad i owned both but, they shoulda been one release
There's some conflicting information on the Michael Jackson thing.

This video covers the topic in great detail.
Cliff Notes:
Michael Jackson was 100% involved in composing music for Sonic 3
Sega maintains that they decided to remove his compositions entirely from the game because of the molestation scandal.
However, frequent MJ collaborator Brad Buxer (who is credited in Sonic 3) said if MJ was not credited in the game it was because he felt the Genesis' sound system was too weak to properly portray his music. At the same time, he also said he never personally played Sonic 3 and had no idea if any of Jackson's compositions actually made it into the game.
Someone who worked directly in the development in the game but chooses to remain anonymous said that MJ bowed out of composing music for the game about halfway through because he felt the sound system was too weak (confirming Buxer's version) and asked to not be credited. Now, the story goes, the whole development team was down about MJ quitting but some time later when the scandal hit they were like ':whew: dodged a bullet with that one.' but the music MJ composed was kept in the game, unaltered. Now, as for what exact stages he worked on, that can't be 100% confirmed although the source said MJ for sure did Carnival Night. He also said MJ submitted Black or White to be in the game but it was removed due to opposition from MJ's lawyers. Sega should still be in possession of the unused FM sound source.
There's some legal issues going on with this stuff as well. So, we're unlikely to get more concrete answers than this.

Speaking of Brad Buxer, he was the keyboardist for the band The Jetzons and in 1982 they released this song
EDIT - It wasn't released in 1982, it was recorded in 1982 but went unreleased until 2008.

This isn't isn't a stretch. That song is just flat out the song used for Ice Cap Zone. Lazy b*stard didn't even come up with a new beat

Oh, as for the whole Sonic 3/Sonic & Knuckles being different games thing. I feel like that was kind of a precursor to this ridiculous DLC shyt going on now. Developers had to see that people were willing to pay full price for half of a game and been like :ohhh:

You crazy as hell if you don't think Sonic was just as popular as Mario. I said this shyt in another thread that was about Sega just doing mobile games from here on out.

Nintendo needs to buy the rights to all of these Sonic games and give him a complete "reboot", that IP can still bring in coins.

'There was a time when Sonic was more recognizable than Mario and Mickey Mouse.'

1992-1995.....Sonic was running things period anybody saying otherwise was too young to remember or is a fukking liar

Mario and sonic are pretty much classic's its sad that sonic could never reproduce what nintendo does with mario time and time again.

sonic 2 and sonic and knuckles go toe to toe with them to be honest...maybe even a tad above. Sonic and Knuckles did some stuff that was just unheard of at the time and even to this day really..
