Unless you're talking about Sony themselves. Sony was never for it either, that is a lie that coli nikkas made up cause Microsoft was directly asked about crossplay last gen and said no. The part that's always left out is that Sony never said they were for it, they just chose not to comment on it when asked. Show me where Sony said they wanted crossplay last gen, I'll wait.
I really dont care about the situation that led up to Nintendo and Microsoft allowing crossplay, when the gamers pushed for it THIS generation Sony were the only ones being difficult. When developers were talking about allowing crossplay they said Sony was the hold up.
I dont work for any of these companies and I dont give a damn about how they felt about it LAST generation, it's been one of the most requested features THIS generation and everyone is on board but sony.
They claim they are "4 the gamers" so they need to stop bullshytting and do it "4 the gamers"

Sony knew it had a bigger base at the time so of course they were hard up about merging there user base. But now since next gen is a fresh start it only makes sense for them to play nice. Atleast in the beginning

when before the microsoft/nintendo announcement were people demanding for crossplay? it was a cool thing to have, but it wasnt clamored for getting constant articles until then.
Not reading but is it simply that Sony is just going to use Azure? OR are they coming out with an actual platform together? Two very different things.

That is literally NOT what this is at all. The recent moves from M$ have done nothing but prove that they are probably moving OUT of the hardware space in the next decade or so. This next console is more than likely their last.
Sony has all the industry cache, the library AND the install base. Nintendo has install base and perhaps the most revolutionary system of the gen.
M$ can't compete with that on either front...but where they CAN compete is infrastructure.
This is a move for ALL THREE of the console makers to compete with Google and Amazon. Cloud-based development is going to be the single most important innovation in gaming for the next gen and beyond. This way M$ builds the infrastructure and makes money without having to truly spend any on console development. Sony wins by getting access to cloud-based development on their games and continued console dominance. Nintendo wins by getting a truly top-tier online membership experience and a larger library through Xbox Live.
This ain't Sony vs. M$ no more...this is the gaming industry vs. tech titans.

When Sony started locking down epic accounts for people trying to log onto their accounts on other systems is when the issue came up. This was before the Microsoft Nintendo deal.

Look the shyt up, crossplay has been a feature that was constantly requested since 2016 with minecraft. The fortnite debacle is when the issue came to a head and Microsoft announced the partnership with Nintendo while this was happening.
