Sony wants to get as many of their consoles in people's home as possible. Sony doesn't just get profit from game and console sales. They also get profit from the microtransactions, in game transactions, accessories, psn, etc. all based on player engagement. They will also need console sales so their ps6 only exclusives sell well and get profit from all the sources set up by those games. The only way they're doing that is at a price that is no higher than the ps5. Yes there are people who bought a $700 ps5 or will buy a $700 ps6 but those are early adopters. Sony is trying to appeal to the mass market. That's their whole business strategy with playstation. Sell as many units as possible to maximize profit from all the sources they set up. They almost tanked after selling the ps3 at $600 and bring that up all the time. They instead turned to pro consoles to sell consoles above their target audiences cutoff price to enthusiasts.Yall don’t get it. Even if they launch at 699 people still buy it people were paying that price and even more with scalpers when it launched. They are now the only flagship console and now Xbox nikkas will be split to pc or ps6.
