Japan, but from the 989
I thikn this is the future of movies too. Imagine a movie that is shot in a way where each character in the movie is somehow filmed from their 1st person perspective. So you can watch the movie like normal, or if you have one of these devices and special players or whatever you can take over the actors role in 1st person.. I have no idea how that would happen the technology probably doesn't exist yet as far as being able to catch every single angle of every scene to reproduce it in a virtual environment, and maybe it would only allow you to "jump in" at specific parts. But say you are watching batman and there is a scene of him ripping down a gotham bridge being chased by joker in a tank, joker is blasting tank rounds. So you are watching it and it's like a normal action scene with cuts of the batmobile, tank, batman's face, joker's face, shyt blowing up etc. but in the middle of it you can switch to a VR type 1st person view as if you are batman, and the scene still plays out as normal with joker blasting you with tank rounds but it's like you are batman trying to get away.:wow:Then when that scene is over and it's just batman talking to alfred you can just go back to watching it normal, unless you want to sit there and talk to alfred.:yeshrug: That shyt would be straight nuts.

This is a great idea! The possibilities!

TYRONE GA!
So someone explain to me why this VR setup is shytting on Oculus Rift? I mean, I saw that pop up in this thread a few times as if its just a wrap for the Rift or something. Last I checked, the Oculus guys had John Carmack on their side and I'd align my troops alongside Carmack any day of the week before I'd even check the roster over at Sony. So what gives. Maybe someone mentioned it in this thread, but once a thread gets more that 5 pages long I stop reading all the posts in between.

Nope, VR headsets have existed in some iteration for damn near 30 years. The always fail to get mainstream acceptance because no one want to wear a 5-10lb device on their head for hours at a time. Imaging playing a 2 hour game of Call of Duty with this thing. You'll likely end up with serious neck pain and cramps. But, its made by sony so i'm sure you'll hype it to no extent and likely not purchase it.

act like were not in 2014 brehs

phones were wack as fukk until like 5 years ago. technology moves fast. i doubt this generations VR will be that great, but the fact that they have a seemingly good prototype and are working with HEAVYWEIGHTS like NASA and JPL :mindblown: lets me know that shyt is about to get real in the VR field...

but again i dont have super high hopes for this. should be cool but we probably wont get the true VR experience until the next gen systems drop.

:manny: Real talk, I use my PlayStation Consoles as a Media Hub 1st, Game Console 2nd. So, I don't really give a fukk about this VR stuff. It's just gonna be an expensive accessory that I don't care about to even consider purchasing it.

I 'd MUCH rather hear Sony talk more about future PS4 firmware updates.

Custom headphones. This is getting interesting.

Tracking duties are handled by the existing PS4 PlayStation Camera, which polls at 1000Hz (one thousand times every second it's checking your position) and you can turn 360 degrees.

Which means things can sneak up on you...HELL NO! :merchant:

Playing the last of us with this in a room full of clickers tho...

Real talk, if this takes off and beats the Oculus Rift, this could spell doom for PC gaming again.

fukk I wanna play on three monitors if I got VR?

you can use console controllers on PC's right?
maybe the VR headsets will be compatible with PC's as well...more sales is always good.

Struggling to see how this is "the future of gaming"

Does this mean we throw all 3rd person, sports, fast paced/twitch, precision control games in the bushes?
:what: Why do people assume this means conventional gaming is going out?? When the Wii came out, despite it selling like hot cakes, that didn't make regular couch gaming inferior, it was just another form of gaming.

I don't know. Just going by some of the comments I've been reading. Sounds cool, but VR in general is pretty limiting compared to people's normal living room experiences.
