So my son is getting tested today, to get into a gifted&talented school in September.

He's the ONLY black kid here

Which makes me the only black parent here.

Which makes these white folks think it OK to ask me, where does my son go to school, what I do for a living, what school I went to, and where we live

I'm trying not to be the stereotypical black woman, and curse someone out. But someone got 1 more time to come over here and ask me some bullshyt


I guarantee my son is smarter then all these kids in here tho

Well this is for him to get into a kindergarten. At that age, kids don't give a fukk about other kids being weird. They just want someone to play with.

When he gets older, and if he feels all out of place and lonely, I wouldn't mind him goin to regular public school.

From personal experience as a gifted kid I will say this...don't forget to nurture him emotionally, and to emphasize his creativity or athletic ability (or any non-academic talents), if he possesses it, as my mother and family did. Not saying that you will, but it's easy to forget about nurturing a child as a whole when they have one exceptional talent. I see it with parents all the time.

Just judging from your posts, I think you are one of the most respectable male posters on this board, real talk. You are very strongly family oriented, care about your children and your wife. You have respectable views of women and relationships. We need more black men like you in the community.

If you have the time, I highly encourage you to volunteer within the community with our youth. They need to see more men like you to look up to.

Congratz @Rockstar Mom on having a good kid.

Some advice tho...Make sure you give you son supplemental black history so that he doesn't become white washed and disregard where he is from. It is very important. I went to magnet schools all my life and all we learned about were white heros. I come from a good family background with African pride so I made it out ok.

If you don't teach him about his true history he will end up like @RamDam12, @The Nigerian, @malkoonxxx_45 or the male version of @Anothergirl.

You see how the c00ns mentioned above get down, and those are just the c00ns I know off memory. Don't let this be your son.

i aint saying he's going to be a "corny brotha"

but i've always been interested to know what it's like for a single black mother to raise a scholar. when he's going to have a hard time getting black girls to like him. so when the kid brings home a white girl, how does the mother rationalize it in her head?
