Again, I was around for both games, and you're definitely in the minority on the replayability thing.

It's similar to a classic Action/Adventure or Comedy movie vs. A well written and executed drama. That Drama might even win best picture, but which movie do you love to watch repeatedly? The one that took you on the most entertaining/fun/memorable ride.

The problem with game mechanics being the strongest feature is, all game mechanics are repetitive no matter how much you like them in a game. That repetitive shyt will not bring you back for more. Scale, presentation, immersion, and entertainment will bring you back for more. I can picture a certain game level I played through in my mind and immediately crave wanting to play through that shyt again. TR didn't have memorable shyt like that, but the game did play well though.
Games aren't movies.

And you can't possibly make the argument that gameplay is more "repetitive" than the watching the same story sequences play out multiple times.

Different strokes for different folks. I don't even like movies really. Especially shallow blockbusters like uncharted is inspired by.

I'm not talking about watching story sequences playout, I'm talking about re-playing through incredible moments of a game. As a gamer, you really don't care if a game has some incredible, jaw dropping moments? You care more about executing the shooting mechanics of a bow and arrow for 500th time?

As a gamer watching a set piece that I have no real control over isn't jaw dropping to me. I can never get past the fact that I had no control over what happened. I was never afraid that drake would fail. I would purposely try to make him turn around and/or miss jumps and the game would tell me

Pulling off a headshot, or fighting my way through a tense situation is what drops my jaw.

Uncharted will have a better mp but keeping it real, it's single player is getting pretty bland. So I wouldn't be surprised that tomb raiders single player looks and plays better. I don't think I've ever played another trilogy where the game didn't seem to change much
