,every month you see a thread detailing a rappers contract and posters saying " these execs exploiting these dudes man:scust:,"4 dudes take before he gets to see his cut:wow:"

now jay is trying to help artist get a lil more, by tidal giving up more % it will eventually make spotify re-think their plan on royalties(?) etc

roc nation will continue to sign good artist which will push tidal further ...

give it a year or two :whoo:

unlike other rappers, once jay stops making music,he will have a piece of the music pie

he is teaching other rappers how to have that long career and then make that all important transition

hopefully they are taking note

If he doesnt speak out, hes a tap dancing kneegrow...

If he does speak out, its only for the money, he doesnt really care etc.

I guess its a lose lose situation either way when you reach that level of fame

No when you reach that level speak out for actual change not to push some overpriced streaming service.

When he does speak out for change people claim he's on that fake "pro black" steez. Some folks just aren't going to like dude period. At this point I think it has very little to do with what he's doing and more to do with the dude who's doing it

This is where Jay Z the artist and Jay Z the business man can't co-exist. For a piece of creative writing, a performance.. the freestyle was brilliant. On an abstract level the comparisons and I guess.. the dualities of mentioning his position with Tidal and what's been going on around the country works on a top line level... just that top level as rap lines.

But because both examples are so real and both examples involve the public's participation it comes across very bad. When Kanye was on his rants and poor comparisons at least he was complaining about gatekeepers. The way Jay's freestyle can be interpreted its "by my product cos youtube and them are bad" which is extremely cynical and manipulative. I don't think that was Jay Z - the artists purpose with the freestyle. He was just defending his piece in the light of today's situations. In our thoughts and conversations in everyday we as individuals may mention police btrutality in the same breathe as getting looked over for that promotion at work and not think nothing of it. But because of Jay's situation it comes across super bad which is a pity because the freestyle was dope.

Basically: Artists should be able to express themselves and be wrong or slightly miss the nail - they artists - they are expressing themselves. But when business men.. product owners.. marketers miss the mark.... it's a whole other - disgusting beat. But this is Jay's life he's a hustler. He'll always be pushing something for us to consume so it will always make his statements, actions etc. look manipulative even if that isn't his MO. And there's no win. Like with his "silent" donations to Ferguson and such. If he's silent - people act like he didn't help. If he makes noise on it - people will think he's using it to promote his own agendas or publicity. Sometimes he's guilty (Occupy wallstreet selling t-shirts) sometimes he's not (Ferguson).

I don't give a fukk about Beyonce or madonna but I do about indie artists who struggle to keep bringing us music. Do you know any artists? Ask them about their opinion on record sales and downloading. Nikkas pay for netflix without question but when it comes to music it's like :whoa:
Most artists didn't make the lionshare of their bread from music back in the heydays anyway. Indie artists know that touring pays the bills. A lot of major acts too.

The Roots never ate off record sales. They get that money on the circuit.

I'm a consumer. I'm going to use the best product.

TYRONE GA!
I don't like the "race card" used unnecessarily but it does seem like some of the negative press toward Jay has been well timed and calculated during this tidal wave...(don't ask me how) :banderas:

Regardless of how the business model needs to be tweaked (and it does) I don't think it's far fetched to say that he's competing with companies that really don't want to share the market with anybody else, especially somebody black.

Even if it's exaggerated it's a good spin on some of the L's he's taken as of recent and the way he delivered it should have some positive effect. These corporate cacs wouldn't hesitate to do the same.

Why not offer the same service as Spotify but have it as the only place to get your music and others?

Streaming services do benefit people and that's why millions are subscribed worldwide. Jay's point is simple--at no point in recent history has the wealth of the owner of a product been used against them. This is the same thing as the hit pieces Scott Boras had people writing when Jay Z was taking his clients. This is an angle that only works against artists because they have other responsibilities. Which is why all of those people were fighting off being called sell outs when no one says shyt about the owner of spotify because people do not care about him personally. How is this flying over the heads of people like @sporticus it is really straight-forward.

Nas stans make more threads about Jay Z than they do about Nas....

God I despise stupid people. But without stupid people in the world making over a 100k will be an impossibility. So in retrospect, I love all stupid people:blessed:.

Out here in my damn drawls
For the people claiming that everyone is hating on Jay: How many of y'all are actually subscribed to Tidal :stopitslime:?

His little guilt trip was borderline disgusting. Murdered black people don't have shyt to do with streaming and profit shares for artists. fukk Madonna :camby:
