when suge got out, he should've carried the west on his back and reinvented the coast the best way he could

new rappers, producers and singers from compton, south central, inglewood, watts etc with a new sound. still hood but with a new sound because the 2000s bought a new era and time

suge should've been more level headed and wise and not so damn petty about the past. the past is the past. he should've let that be what it was and moved on with helpin' a shyt load of new GREAT artists and tryin' to see to it that they had everythin' they needed to be be successful so that he could've bought the west back

the west needed some new and up and comin' rappers. again, the 2000s was a new time and era, it was time for some new voices to come along and wow the public again

i just wish suge would've been focused on the future, instead of just livin' in the past and bein' so over the top and bitter towards dre and snoop

I don't know if this is a true statement.

i'm just speakin' from the perspective of someone who's a huge west coast fan but not from the west

i know how hard it was to sometimes findin' albums by some of these guys and how they didn't get play out here (va) and some not at all (mac dre)

There never was a lot of westcoast labels. Most of the majors were based back east, most of the hip hop imprints were back east. In Los Angeles there was Priority, Deathrow, Ruthless, Capitol and Delicious. Delicious wasn't a gangsta rap label they put out Young MC and Pharcyde records. Priority had Cube and Ras Kass (fukked him over a bit), few others here and there but ended up being merged into Capitol. Once the 'all star' team blew up everyone went their own ways instead of say all going over to Aftermath.

Kurupt ran to Antra...

Warren G and WC were already signed to Def Jam...

Snoop left to No Limit which was a Priority sub anyways...

Deathrow ended up stalling out Nate Dogg and Crooked I to where they ended up doing very little...

So to answer your question, Deathrow and Ruthless were the only gangsta rap minded labels and they ended up both being killed by Deathrow/Suge Knight....

Aftermath put out Game and Xzibit (platinum artists) just for the record...not to mention when Snoop, Kurupt, and Nate Dogg all went back to working with Dre/Aftermath/Deathrow 2.0 they started to make bigger records.

they weren't making a lot of noise

It may seem that way because they weren't screaming the label name on every record like other labels were.

The fact remains: Hoo' Bangin', Dogghouse, and Noo Trybe kept the West alive post Death Row.
I don't believe anyone who says Mack 10, Westside Connection, Eastsidaz, Kokane, The Luniz, C-Bo, and Rap-A-Lot
wasn't successful during that period.

they were successful on a certain level but i was talkin' bout in the way that death row was in it's hey day, bruh

you and i know both know you couldn't compare none of those labels you 1st named to death row's hey day :comeon:

again, i'm NOT sayin' those labels you 1st named won't successful because they did achieve some successful but not to the level of what @Ol' Otis was talkin' bout in his 1st post of this thread

You and I both know you couldn't compare any label to Death Row's hey day...we have never seen anything like that before,
and we never will again. That's why it doesn't make much sense to compare Death Row to anyone.

...but he didn't ask that - he asked "what happened to the labels". They were there.

point taken and true

but you know also know what he meant

those labels you named were "there" but they didn't really have a presence outside of the west like talkin' bout post 96'. i mean, they did OK but and were still doin' their thing on a smaller scale but lemme put it to you like this, mac dre won't gettin' play out here in va. nor was noo trybe AT ALL.

those labels presence won't felt worldwide like talkin' bout

i hate to admit it but the west ain't been the same since 96' :yeshrug::mjcry:

The Luniz wasn't gettin' play in VA?
And I know C-Bo was gettin' play in VA, because the government heard it and put him in jail for his rhymes.
And Noo Trybe was puttin' out all of Rap-A-Lot's music. You tellin' me Rap-A-Lot music wasn't gettin' play in VA?

bruh, calm down. you know what i meant when i said that. they got play in circles but not like talkin' bout

shyt like westside connection got plenty of play though

the bottom line is this, the west ain't been the same since 96' and it's sad to say but it's the reality of what it was

the LARGER than life presence that the west had wasn't so/as LARGE post 96'

#TSC and surgical shoes
and you know, even though shyt had changed when suge came home, i fee like he still could've have a second comin' with death row

now, it was NEVER gon be what it was before in it's hey day, but i felt like suge could've really bought back some great music if he wouldn't have been wastin' his time with promotin' fake 2pacs (the realest) and snoops (top dogg)

suge should have been scoutin' around the streets of watts, compton, inglewood for talent and lookin' for new rappers and producers for the new shyt of the 2000s

but instead he was comfortable just livin' off of old shyt he had in vaults and just makin' fun of dre and snoop :francis:
Suge had the chance to make death row big again when he came back and almost linked a deal with Lyor Cohen in '02. The catch was that Lyor wanted the masters to everything so who knows even if he would've gave them that he still would have been done dirty. I forgot where I heard this so take it with a grain of salt I guess.
