Mike the Executioner
What went on up there? Poppers and weird sex!
Guru.
I don't think people are fully aware of how great he was. He checks all the boxes of an elite MC. Distinctive voice, impeccable flow/delivery, versatility, consistency, ability to adjust over the years. He was able to switch up his style gradually without losing his essence. A lot of people ignore him or disrespect him because Premier was his producer, like he wouldn't be shyt without him. Which doesn't make sense because rappers with a great ear for beats are usually regarded well (Jay-Z), but with Guru, people use that against him. "Yeah, you worked with one of the GOAT producers, of course you were going to make great music. You would be worse without him." Even though Guru proved he could make entertaining music without Premier (Jazzmatazz), and Premier had to work to become the producer he is now.
Go back and listen to any Gang Starr album and tell me he wasn't rapping his ass off. Some of Guru's old verses on One of the Best Yet show more talent than a lot of rappers today.
