No it's about knowing the history of who we're dealing with. Europeans lie about damn near everything related to history. Why do you think they would suddenly tell the truth about this?

Just use logic for a second. If you're the King of Spain or England and your army has conquered this new land, why would you let it get named after some random guy instead of yourself?

It was mostly English monarchs that did this. You don't really see geographical locations named after Spanish or French monarchs with exception to maybe King Louis of France.

So this really wasn't a thing outside of the English. And the English arrived in America long after the Spanish.

America's name is the United States of America just no one feels like saying United States all the time some they aay America.

I typically don't believe stuff like this. Why would the royals of Europe allow a "new" continent to be named after some random guy? Wouldn't the King of Spain or England have named it after himself?

I believe America was the name of this land before any European stepped on it. They just used this Italian dude as an excuse to keep us blinded about the truth of there being a black presence in the Americas before Columbus.

Most European kings at the time didn't visit the America's. Vespucci worked for Portugal which means he likely came to look for lands to make Portugal money. The king gets the riches, the name of the general area is less of a concern, especially since Vespucci didn't name the the continents after himself, cartographers and others gave it that name as time passed. Hell, one of the first real colonies in that area was Brazil and it isn't named after a Portuguese king.

You can believe what you wanna believe. All I know is most nations are named after local names given by the natives or by the others describing the local people (i.e. Ethiopia and Sudan meaning "Land of the Blacks"). Nations aren't typically named after random individuals that visited it.

If you wanna believe America is named after some random Italian dude then go right ahead. I know better than to believe some bs story like that. America probably has some deeper meaning that they don't want us to know.
