Spinoff: How would a US civil war even work today?

To me it's a bit more rhetorical than the textbook definition of a civil war. What I do see happening is continuation of development of different paramilitary groups, some of which will engage in terrorism. Think closer to Ireland/IRA. There are many parts of the country where these ppl can congregate in numbers large enough to have legitimate political power, at least on the local level (i.e. the police sheriff who was on code when discussing the Gretchen assassination attempt). Some of these groups will claim/preach nonviolence but others will not. They will test/probe the response by the federal government by doing shyt like preventing access by federal/state officials to areas/territories to which they claim control or authority over. The US military would never allow an actual civil war to break out. And bc the perpetrators here will be white, federal authorities will not crack down as ruthlessly as if we were talking about muslim jihadis or Black Nationalists (look at what happ'd with Clive Bundy).

In the same state where an anti-government militia plotted to kidnap the governor, a separate group of neo-Nazi terrorists hatched their own plot: Establishing a white nationalist, heavily armed, and fortified “community” to launch the so-called race war.

According to secret chats obtained by VICE News between known accelerationist neo-Nazis, a subset of the far right that believes terrorism will hasten the collapse of the U.S. government, Watkins claimed he was going to be purchasing and occupying land in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, not far from where he was eventually arrested.

“The faster we get guys the faster we can snowball property grabs. Get four plus guys in a house splitting property tax and food and saving up for each of them to buy the next bit of land and move in four more to help.”

It would probably look like a bunch of larpers getting mowed down by trained military units.
If anything resembling a Civil War did break out it probably wouldn't accomplish much other than give the military cause to implement a police state....and that would be the story of how American Democracy gave way to a dictatorship.

i think mass violence is the only thing that would cause fracturing. the capitalist class would not otherwise allow america's flow of capital to be impeded by more competing governments in the same space.

There's definitely a lot of that going on.

But you don't need many true believers to cause a lot of damage.

One third of Republicans think political violence is justified today. If only half a percent would be willing to pull a trigger that's still literally tens of thousands of ppl.

And not to be a downer but this can only get worse for the foreseeable future bc white grievance politics isn't going anywhere.

Oh I don't doubt it. For these angry whites, all that entitlement and power is slipping away. They still will be the majority for the future, but for whites not born of privilege, they will have to work just as hard as everyone else now and not just rely on connections; or at least connections bases on same race.
