What's to like about either of them dudes? Squall was one of the worst main characters in any RPG ever. When I was a kid i thought his act was mildly entertaining but he's what happens when a spoil brat grows up and doesn't learn how to behave.

As for Cloud. He has no personality or character. He's like a cardboard box. He has even less personality that Lightning who at the start of her game is an a$$hole but at the end of it is a somewhat softer gentler a$$hole who can smile and make jokes. The best moments with Cloud are Aerith screwing around with him because he's such a stick in the mud. After her death and especially in Advent Children he becomes an even worse person.

Cloud and Squall are the type of people who never smile or laugh at anything really. miserable people with messed up developments who never get over themselves or how they grew up.

That's the only likable main protagonist of the PS generation Final Fantasies. He was a fun decent person with an actual personality that wasn't an emo or constantly brooding around who's development was seemingly stunted in childhood.

Karol had one of the best manup moments in a RPG though. Hope KINDA got his shyt together but he was always a softy at the end of the day.

But I used to hate Karol too until he got hair on his chest. Dude earned the whole teams respect. And you know Yuri don't just hand out props like that.

Yo fukk this lil bytch for real. She ruined the ending to every battle talm bout "it's all thanks to you edgie", shyt was weird dawg. The game was shyt anyways tho. I took it back the day after I bought it.

KAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY... She was truly the most annoying character I've seen in a game.

I gave the game a good amount of time till I got stuck in a dungeon where the gameplay felt tired as fukk. I packed it up then sent it back to Gamefly

Cloud was screwed up before he found out he was a clone. Tidus as much as people dislike him was a better character than either Cloud or Squall for the simple fact that he too had a real personality and wasn't a brooding emo with a chip on his shoulder. I never had a problem with Tidus yeah his costume looks stupid and he looks a lil sunburned but he was an alright person.

Square should abandon the whole Squall / Cloud / Lightning style main character. Its funny you see people hate Lightning but defend Cloud when Lightning is based on Cloud. They're almost identical characters and it was by design.

Can't really agree with the Cloud/Lightning hate. First of the all the problem is it seems like most people like these emo/dark-style characters. There is a reason characters like Itachi, Ulquiorra, Levi and Mikasa in anime/manga are the most popular and loved characters. People love the mysterious, emo, dark type characters. Cloud fits in that category but not Squall IMO. Cloud was an a$$hole and a$$holes can be unintentionally funny. Example...

Barrett: We have to destroy this Mako Reactor! Its draining all the energy and killing everything!! Don't you care about saving the people?!
Cloud: Not my problem bro....I just wanna get paid.

No fukks given in a funny kinda way. I actually laughed when he said that. You never got shyt like that from Squall. Dude was just an overall pos douchebag from the very start.

Nah, thats silly. Squall was actually on of the ONLY FF mains to develop and actually become a MAN during the course of the game. He went from a self-absorbed little pissant to a natural leader, loyal friend and ride or die for Rinoa. But only people actually played FF 8 and didn't just skim through it would know that.

Cloud though he was a different person through majority of the game and was fresh off seeing his only friend get noodled by Shinra. One thing I CAN'T defend Cloud on is having one of the baddest chicks in all of RPGs on his dikk and still being hung up on a church girl.

Ulquiorra was a guy that was struggling to understand humans. In his own twisted way he bonded with Orihime and in the end he came close to understanding them better.

Mikasa is far from emo. She's just in love with Eren. She's what is called a kuudere (hard exterior but deep down a very caring person)

Itachi was just doing what he had to do for what he saw as the greater good. he's a kuudere like Mikasa

Levi, I don't know his deal cause I didn't make it far enough. Seemed like an a$$hole though and not the a$$hole with a heart of gold Roy Mustang type either.

Cloud was just an a$$hole. With a rather large group of people around him who cared about him and reached out to him he effectively shunned them and shut them out so he could sit around and sulk and brood over how wrong things went for him. He didn't really know how to bond with anyone and kept everyone at a distance. It frustrated the people around him especially Tifa. He doesn't really develop or become a better person either. at the end of Advent Children he's still the same.
