Jay a finessing, money making machine. he's the American dream personified.

makes sense why he's been with him so much...he been running around with Jack ever since
"Black Twitter, what's that ? When Jack gets paid, do you ?"

good to see my three favorite rappers doing great. Jay-Z doing....well, everything and getting seats at all the tables, Nas impressive investment portfolio and Cam'ron has his weed company and is punching woman in the back of the head while fukking them to promote his sex juice.

just some legends setting the standards in all realms of life.

and they fukked the roll out so badly it hurt them and what should have been an early head start, set them back.
had to fight through years of jokes, scrutiny and bad press because of that cringey Avengers style video.

Yeah, that was a big learning experience for sure. But he still turned a $56 million dollar investment into a more than a quarter billy sale after 5 years.

But that's not even where this deal is impressive, Square Inc is a payments company (they own Cash App for example)...I think you can expect Tidal to become a big player in helping artists monetize their work.

Trust black capitalists brehs
All these companies being marketed as black companies have a final goal of being sold ......to cacs

Indeed. Building Tidal up and positioning it to get sold to a giant tech company or venture capitalist group was ALWAYS the end game. So it always confused me as to why so many people bought into that "Black Ownership" bullshyt. Jay was NEVER going to maintain majority ownership in Tidal, he doesn't have the money to do it. (And that's not a knock on him, there's probably only about 50 people in America that have the money to do that).

Jay basically did the same thing that Dre did with Beats Music and Apple, but it appears that he is choosing to get less money out of the deal in order to retain some ownership while having more control and influence than Dre does.

Props to Jay on the deal regardless tho.

Salute Hov! :salute:

Folks that never supported Tidal gonna come in here talking about what about black ownership and hov being a capitalist.

Man turned $50Ms into 300Ms in 5 years. And original stakeholders kept their piece of the pie.

A win for hov is a win for black ownership and empowerment. He is playing their game and winning.

How much is tidal fukking worth if 300m don’t buy 100%?
Since they are buying a “significant majority”, can’t be more than approx. 600 million right?

fantastic investment on Jay’s part. I think he bought it for around 50 million? Sold a third of it to Sprint in 2017 for 200 million. Now another nearly 300 million. I wonder if the purchase is all or mostly the 2/3 owned by Jay and the other artists? Or if it includes the 1/3 owned by Sprint?

There's nothing they could have done that would have given them an "early" headstart. Apple isn't a new player in the music industry they own iTunes plus they own the device(s) that everyone plays their music on. Google owns Youtube.

Good for the stakeholders but people can’t get caught up in the illusion that it’s anything more than that

There's nothing wrong with buying and selling for a profit. They can use the capital to implement whatever changes they want to see

And CashApp has a noted interest in Bitcoin :ohhh:

You say this about Tidal, but Jack owns less than a quarter of Square and less than 1 % of Twitter. People sell companies all the time when they can't take it further or feel that someone else can do it better.

I also don't think Jay sold it as some "black ownership" thing, he shytted on people for laughing at a black man trying to challenge silicon valley trillions. He sold it as musician ownership, which in itself was laughable. Then they reevaluated and sold it as the service paying artists the most, which is true.
