Wow, they used tpab to show not only Kendrick growing as an artist, but to say hip hop is more advanced now? Lost me there.

lets be fair here

nas one of the most progressive artists ever?

ill give you the arguement as far as illmatic and iww(barely on this one as he went mafioso route which was the gimmick at the time)

but past that your just stanning up lol

and thats not a slide against nas by no means

but i also see you made it a purpose to write in "mainstream level"

but lets keep it all the way real here

common as an artist has progressed by leaps and bounds over the years well past nas

now to clarify not sayin common is better than nas so everyone breathe lol

just pointing out the progression and development common has done across his catalog

nas hasnt done anything remotely close to that and to be honest MAJORITY of mc's havent not just nas

another mc one could bring up in andree 3000 but to be fair he never did a solo and the group aspect plays into his favor with the creativity and growth

as for 1 album cant keep you in the mix for 20+ years

example: LL cool j

granted his earlier work was decent but it was JUST that decent

dude still goin 30+ years

has he progressed` really?

no he hasnt

so that angle is null and void

at the end of the day im a nas fan

but im also realistic and fair

the article has many valid points

and not for nothing we all know how true this is and just ignore it

its 2015

and how many times does the jay battle and jay comparrison debate start on forums??

872348972349 times a day

the battle took place 14 years ago why is this the benchmark of a nas conversation?

in fact how sad is it that of all things THATS what he is referenced for 99% of the time?

krs one battled shan and its seldom brought up as krs one other accomplishments far surpass it

i personally feel the nas and jay battle was entertaining and literally there was no winner no one went away no ones career was hurt ironically it elevated both of them career wise in the end and today they are friends and do songs together lol

but in 14 years since the battle it gets priority in a nas conversation over EVERYTHING the man has done since then

kinda says something

Let's put some of these misconceptions to rest...

Nas didn't "follow" the Mafioso Style, he was at the forefront of it. The true pioneer of the style was Kool G Rap, who Nas has patterned some of his early style after, but as far as the mainstream Nas, along with Wu, AZ, Biggie (to a lessor degree) and Jay-Z all brought it to the forefront as a staple Of East Coast Hip Hop.

People only truly bring up the Jay-Z battle online, I could debate about Hip Hop and the Goats amongst live Hip Hop fans and the battle is only mentioned when discussing that specific time period. Nas name isn't synonymous with Ether like Colimposters like to claim, it would be an insult to how diverse his discography actually is to even attempt such a weak argument.

Your posts are full of bullshyt and your posting style is atrocious nobody trying to scroll down to read this shyt :what:

Nas was at the forefront of the mafioso movement it's not a trend he hopped on, if you don't see the progression artistically from Illmatic to Life is Good, I don't know what to tell you. :beli:

How has common progressed leaps ands bounds more? Resurrection is still his best album. Like common didn't drop electric circus and universal mind control?
be is considered to be by many people his best album as well as ressurection, you can't say that about nas post illmatic-iww.

as far as mainstream goes common wins that argument, but not overall its not even close.

Why have hip hop media/publications seemingly developed a covert aversion to everything Nas over the last 2 decades? Why was, imo, the best rap song of that year "Ultra Black" swept under the rug so fast and not even given a chance by radio, etc...? Let's talk.

He doesn’t/shouldn’t have to tho..he’s Nas, one of the best rappers in the history of rap by all accounts…and a platinum/multi-platinum status rapper at that…until the media/game started frontin on him. The way his tour runs be super duper successful and all that kinda tells me that it’s an industry thing...because the people salute son for the pillar and icon that he is clearly…it’s just rap media who acts like he got cooties or sumn and won’t support him like that
