CNN/SI - Michael Jordan Retires - Flashbacks: A Towering Twosome - Thursday January 14, 1999 11:12 AM

Plus Mike had a 48 inch vert. People really underestimate how great of an athlete he was.

Jordan didn't have a 48" vert, his head would be half a foot above the rim if he did. The only info on Jordan's vertical comes from those "increase your vert" sites, simple math and using your eyes says there's no way he did. Vince Carter got up higher than Jordan and even he didn't have a 48" vert.

Having a 48 inch vert does not necessarily mean you jump that high every time. His personal best vert is 48. Doesn't mean he necessarily has to jump that high every dunk.

He's getting pretty high up in that photo.

Camera angle bruh, it's pointed up at the rim and even then getting rim level is a far cry from getting your head half a foot above it.

Again, he didn't have a 48" vertical, if he did that would mean Vince and James White were in the low 50s, which they weren't. Two guys who clearly get up higher than Jordan ever did, neither of which were coming close to jumping 50".

:manny: I disagree but to each their own. You can't necessarily judge the vert when he has a basketball in his hand trying to dunk it. You are working different muscles when dunking the ball compared to an outright direct vertical jump just to measure it

Even with that in mind, with or without the ball he's not jumping higher than Carter or White. If you believe he has a 48" vertical, then you have to believe that White and Carter could hit the low 50s.

I live in the United States
He might be right

Take off your :flabbynsick: nostalgia glasses and realize jordan isn't an invincible basketball god :umad:

He's half right. But Jordan won all 6 titles on his own with co-stars
And every single one of them "co-stars" when playing elsewhere = Jose Calderon at BEST

Bron had to find 2 of the top 10 players on the planet to play along with to go 1-1 in the finals. Something Jordan never lost :mjpls:
Now Bron has a little stretch this season, whoop whoop. But he isn't even in the same conversation.
There's too many things going on that you must have forgot?
72-10 ring a bell? Heat right now are 36-14
Last season Derick Rose missed most of the season, Chicago still finished with a better record tha Lebron's All-Star heat team :yeshrug:

And isn't it still a very real topic that Lebron isn't exactly the go to guy if you need a last second bucket?
I mean, he's notorious for taking it to the hole, but them jumpers when they really matter are suspect. With Jordan it was automatic. Kobe is suspect'sih now a days. Jordan, once again.. automatic. Even on the Wizards
Its not even close bruh, the gap is this big
i

He had 4 game winners his final season for Washington, Lebron has that many in his career :manny:

And Jordan also during his final season scored 51 & 45pts in back to back games (Tru Story)
He was 40yrs old at this time. And in the game where he scored 51, he sat out for most of the 4th quarter. Easily could of had 60 that game
But I'll let you tell it...

It's a bit early but not unfathomable. It's an accomplishment race for Bron at this point. If Bron gets up to three rings (which I think he will) and more MVP's (we KNOW he will) that may be enough coupled with his physical talent to put him over the top.

I think Bron would win a 1-on-1 though. Very close but he'd win.
