stankonia was critically acclaimed, but it still don't get enough respect from hip hop heads

Too much dumb shyt already being said in this thread. I was 21 when this joint came out, while it was a decidedly different "change" in sound from previous Kast albums..it does not take away from how well both stacks and big boi performed lyrically on the album and how well fukking produced it was. Now, as it being the best Kast album..that's where I draw the gotdamn line. I'm very partial to Aquemini and ATLiens as far as that convo.

great album just wasnt as consistent as the first 3. the main criticism early on about it was it was creative but what about the song making? when in reality the songwriting was excellent. i fukk with snappin & trappin for the back and forth between big and killer and the beat, but as an overall song its a speed bump. plus a few other minor criticisms.

i feel its popular to criticize it because of how commercially successful it was, how it was such a departure, and how many would say it wasnt as good as the first 3. a lot of people just go overboard with the criticism.

We could argue that Outkast doesn't get enough criticism.... for quite a few things

- Not dropping a proper album in 17 years
- The two distinct groups of Outkast fans, pre/post Stankonia
- The fact that Andre 3000 is a lazy recluse who gets a pass for rapping once a year.
- How Outkast went from Atlanta hood shyt, to music used to dismiss Atlanta hood shyt.
- Andre becoming the gimmick, and Big Boi being the one who kept the Outkast name alive all this time.

:ehh: I can move with you on all these points breh. A good spin off thread would be if Outkast has underachieved considering the talent.

im talking specifically stankonia though. the 2nd point doesnt really bother me in particular because youre prone to have non hardcore fans anytime you blow up to the degree they did with stankonia. 3rd true, but thats an andre thing rather than outkast. 4th i wouldnt characterize it as simple as that. 5th thats not really an outkast criticism once again, thats dre.

id liken it to a great athlete that retired while he still had something left in the tank. cept they didnt really retire they released two solo albums masquerading as a group double album then released two solo ep's masquerading as a group soundtrack. they coulda/shoulda had more great group albums left in them, but dre was done for whatever reason and its probably better they stopped rather than force it.

I couldn't take post Stankonia fans seriously, because, from the ones I've personally had interaction with, it seemed they just became aware OutKast existed with this album. They had no idea they already had three albums before that one, even though they had been dropping albums every two years.

I eventually hated the song because it played so much but you couldnt deny the message it had ...

"let her know her grandchild is a baby and not a paycheck" :wow:

it sounded different from the first Outkast albums because thats where music was at the time.

*I'm not really tripping on them not making an true Outkast album since Stankonia. That's the album where you can really feel the rift. It is what it is.
*I agree with what was said about not recognizing post Stankonia fans.
*Andre is that, but when he drops a verse. :blessed:
*I think Outkast is legit one of the only groups/artist who music portrayed their real life growth. Southernplayalistic was really what they were on then (LOL@reading about Andre rolling all the blunts) but then in ATLiens, you hear him spit "No drugs or alcohol so I can keep the signal clear." I guess they didn't feel the need to portray something they weren't anymore. :yeshrug:
*I wouldn't call Andre a gimmick but no lies told about Big Boi keeping the name alive.Always have.....had cats wearing the O with the wing...lol. :flabbynsick:

Honestly they kind of grew up quickly.. They were practically still kids when SouternPlayalistic dropped and Big Boi had a kid in between that and ATLiens. Just seemed like their lyrical maturation mirrored the developments in their life. :yeshrug:

It's funny because I might be one of the only people on here that consider the album a classic. It was the one album where Big Boi and Dre were equally as dope, the production is at least as good as ATLiens, and it's their most 'Southern' sounding album after SPCM.
