Well its a port of a PS3 game isn't it? TBH Star Ocean has never been a top tier RPG franchise. Star Ocean 2 was pretty popular but other than that it hasn't had a huge impact other than the plot twist of 3 almost destroying the series.

First off, no. Its nowhere near as good as 2 - or even 3 (not counting the plot twist and on of course). This was maybe the 3rd best RPG to come out recently (#FE shyts on it and God Eater Resurrection is simply better even as an upscaled PSP/Vita game).
This game.... Like, you can just tell that it was pushed out because the fanbase still existed. The devs just didn't have the power to push anything solid top to bottom out and it showed. But because it actually did come to be after the horror story that was SO4, its probably likely that a re-release or remaster of SO2 will come out in some form in the next 2-3 years.
But in all honesty I think the franchise is dead as fukk. It sucks because Scifi RPGs are so damned hard to come by.
Star Ocean is a fake scifi game. Backstory contains scifi but the game usually takes place on some backwater planet with low tech. SO4 did take place in space but it has Lymle so...
if i take a spaceship to different planets, its scifi enough damnit
sword art is not really a hack and slash... its some weird hybrid
the battle system in this is legit - just everything else is weak. ps3 era weak.
im gonna keep repping God Eater Resurrection because its one of the best deals in gaming right now tho

This game needs proper cut scenes. It's awkward to have the camera panned back as everybody stands around not moving much while they talk. The design choice to remove cut scenes from the game is questionable.
Yo I looked into God Eater just cause you mentioned it. I ended up copping. I only did the tutorials plus one mission. Im feelin it so far. It actually looks pretty damn good for a psp game. The combat is fun so far.

I read about that. I bought resurrection anyway haha. Xcom 2 takes priority September 6
so i wouldn't be playing 2 when it came out anyway. And no guarantee I'll even be getting itThis was only 20 and I'll let it help decide if I want to buy part 2 for 80,
