next gen first 2 seasons were trash and last two seasons were trash (there were some good episodes sprinkled in and some bad ones that were funny though)

DS9 is the goat star trek, but I love TNG too

yeah I got to go with you on this one

About to finish season 5 of DS9
( Watch a few episodes a day while on the treadmill)
That 6 year single story arc " the dominion war" ( even though it was mentioned in the first season)
Fully developed bad guys and they have episodes that are dedicated to their point of view
Hell, fully developed Characters overall and since the it was basically one over arching story-line, every decision made by every character had consequences.
Not following the typical star trek formula.
Tackling religion
Black excellence ( Avery Brooks) chewing up scenery as the Commander, then Captain
Showing the seedier side of the federation

I was like OP , I initially thought TNG was the best Star trek out there
But a buddy of mine turned me onto this and the Battlestar Galactica reboot.
Did you peep Babylon 5, that show is deep and gives DS9 a run for its money. I couldn't choose between the two though. DS9 reruns on tv triggered my scifi awakening. Seeing a black scifi captain had me like :ohhh::banderas:. It's good to see its getting the respect it deserves these days.

TNG is my favorite Star Trek show...but my all-time favorite is Stargate SG-1.
I tried to get into SG-1 but I couldn't. It seems plastic, and lacking depth. I'm not a big fan of that universe especially the snake head pharaohs :dahell:. Its also damn long. What makes it worth the trip breh cause season one wasn't doing it for me and I didnt have the patience to go through all the episodes and series.

this shyt to epic, not only did it span 7 seasons without falling of. it also has no homo activity in it, not one drop of homo unlike any other show. it also has great moral messages like the episode where data becomes captain and people dont think he is qualified because he is an android *black* also.... THE BORG. damn no denying it brehs

Lieutenant Hawk in First Contact was gay.
I think it was hinted that Tasha Yar was bi-sexual as well.

TNG was great but it has aged horribly. Some incredibly fond memories there, though.

DS9 is my favorite trek. I'm watching it again right now. Just got to season 4 and am remembering just how :banderas: this shyt is. Sisko is the fuccing man, but I think my favorite character is Garak.

Like others have said, SG-1 is another great.

It's a different kind of show but imho it holds up the best. Definitely some weak episodes in there but once they finally kill the first villain (Apophis) the universe really opens up and stakes get raised to much higher levels. It's kind of funny because the show supposedly lasts 10 years. At the beginning of the show, they have technology comparable to what we have today, but by the end of the show, they could give the Federation from Star Trek a run for the money, technologically.

But, alas... Babylon 5 is the greatest of all.

Have Not checked Bab 5 or Farscape yet - May have to track it down on netflix or some of the unsupported plex channels:lolbron:.
i heard it was decent as well.
But I may switch up with the next series
Like watch the x-files again then do a space opera.

The snake heads was just Apophis. They were different for each system lord. I love SG-1 for some of the same reasons I love TNG. They really put the 'science' in science-fiction.

I kind of liked Ba'al...a system lord should be arrogant. Yu was of favorite Goa'uld though. The replicators was my favorite villain...only because I could see something like that happen in real life. I also think the Ori story arc was aimed at Christianity.

The SGC acquired that technology from the Asgard. I don't think they could hang with the Federation though...they don't have enough ships.

Reading this thread just makes me  that we don't really have any good scifi shows anymore ...TNG...DS9..SG1 (and its iterations) were all fukkin great

What do we have now? Some decent action series but nothing to compare to the scifi series in this thread
