I had something similar happen to me. I lived in one state and worked in another, but never filed taxes in my residence state. About 5 years later, the old state tried to come at me for all these unpaid taxes. All I had to do was send them amended returns as a credit for those years. Those crooks even pretended not to receive the amended returns and kept asking for money.
