comes with the territory of being the Franchise player really, Curry would have ate them alive if he was guarded like any other Super Star (traps or doubled)
Curry's gift has also become his curse. He's so good that you cannot play him like anybody else. Raptors had to Box and 1 this man in the Finals to take him out of his groove. Klay was the only guy left that could make the Raps pay for paying so much attention on Steph, once he got hurt it was too much for them to overcome.
Is this Finals the first time you've heard of a box and 1 coverage? John Wall literally dropped 40 against that defense in the regular season and he isn't even a great scorer. The fact that teams can repeatedly throw the same defense coverage at Steph (trapping, doubling, etc.) in multiple series ('16 Cavs, '18 Rockets and '19 Raptors) and have repeated success is an indictment on him and reveal just how limited he is offensively.
If he was an elite ISO scorer like a KD or Harden he wouldn't even require a screen to get separation from his defenders, which is just inviting multiple defenders to trap/double team him. That's his biggest curse. Score without a screen and you won't face those same problems.
Kawhi on the other hand didn't even get the satisfaction of having his double teams reserved for when he was calling for screens, the Warriors just flat out blitzed him as soon as he stepped in the half court for the entire series and it barely affected him outside of the end of Game 5. That's the difference between guys like Kawhi, KD, etc. and Steph.
And Klay faced just as much attention as Steph did
off the ball and yet still managed to shoot 58% from 3, with defenders literally draped all over him. You give him that shot Steph missed at the end and he Klay swishes it.
