because it is an extremely ignorant statement that reveals latent if not outright racism on the part of mark cuban. will he cross the street if a white guy in a hoodie is walking in his direction? if not, then, his statement is presupposing that it is NOT the hoodie that is instilling fear in cuban - it is the fact that a black man is wearing that hoodie. THAT is the problem, and THAT is why i have zero respect for any black man that attempts to defend cuban.

:camby:
thats an emotional argument though.
What he said doesnt make him racist.

A cat walking around in the middle of the night hooded up is a question mark to most people.
Do yall live in the hood? because ive walked around at all times of nights and black folks look back and watch people too....its not just white people.
Just last week I was walking out a store on the south side of Chicago...I was behind a chick and startled her when she looked back and saw me...she was black...is that racism?

look at it like this:
Poverty is the number one indicator of crime.
In cities Blacks represent a good amount of poor people (poor whites tend to live in rural areas)...so in cities black people tend to be responsible for a good amount of the crimes.
White people make the jump and associate black people that look a certain way w/ those crimes because there are a good amount in these highly populated areas that are doing the robbing.
Ignorant? Yes...but its reality.

In Chicago something like 400 people were murdered last year...About 330 were black people...and like 8 white people were murdered!
A lot of white people (not all) look at that and see young black people as a threat based on the numbers alone.

Now of course we all know the reasons why things are the way they are...but knowing human nature, do you really expect most people to dig deep and think about this...especially if it doesnt concern their people?
Its just not how people are...people stay at the surface...much like the constant CAC, or anti gay talk here.

What Cuban said opens up that conversation...but painting him as a racist off top shuts things down once again.

I'm so tired of SAS acting like he's some kind of social scientist. fukk outta here. :camby:

Why does this clown feel he's licensed to speak on matters outside his depth on national television? And better yet, why do people validate his self-importance by giving him so much attention? Shut the fukk up and talk about basketball. This nikka ain't Ta-nehisi Coates. He's just some lame loudmouthed cliche-spouting egomaniacal attention whore and a card carrying member of the :flabbynsick: "pull your pants up and act like you've been there before" coalition.

Why is First Take the national platform for sociological discussion as it pertains to race in 2014? :snoop:

You seriously found a way to bring Chicago into this. :laff::laff:

I saw most of the show & I couldn't believe how bad SAS looked. At the end of show he looked dejected, he contradicted himself the entire time dyson was there. I almost felt sorry for him because michael made him sooooooo bad & you could tell skip was enjoying it.

Also did people pay attention to when dyson said about conservatives only seeing one side of the argument and not the other, that was also a shot at SAS. To make matters worse even when dyson clearly illustrated that black issues are talked about in barber shops, salons & churches & we are critical of each other. SAS became irate yelling "when do we never criticize each other". He's one of those folks who thinks yelling equates to being right. He also threw AI under the bus with his tattoo comment.

I wish I could hand enough daps & reps to everyone on here who didn't fall for that BS cuban said, not only that but kudos to everyone in the social media world who called sas out on his BS. Also atleast in the local media everyone is applauding cuban, there has been very little blacklash in the local media.

People forget SAS was the same man who initially didn't have a problem with what GZ did, publicly chastises blacks on any issue. His "all white peoples ain't bad" skeeze is played out. Ryan clark gave him ether, dyson may have ended his career in a lot of aspects with blacks. I don't think he'll bounce back from this.

He loves to talk about how educated he is, how articulate he is, but he showed his ignorance & showed the entire nation what he is and that's the worst you can be is a: c00n sellout, hairline to the top, big lipped, A.I. dikk riding, half a homo that loves attention....

That Colbert example is terrible and I'm not even going to get into the whole Redskins "outrage" because it's a whole different topic.

And that Wright example is nowhere close to relevant to this discussion.
why are Colbert and Rev Wright bad examples?

cause if someones trying to have a serious conversation about this they need to use an example that makes sense.
"if i was walking at night and a puppy was on one side i'd cross to the other side. and if there was a lion on the other side...i'd go back." would you tolerate this conversation? he would atleast have to say why the puppy was so scary, right?
it may have been a lazy example...but we all understood what he was trying to get at.

We all have our hangups.

If a black man applies to 10 jobs, and gets none of them due to him being under qualified...gets mad and says "if I was white I would have gotten the job"...he's assuming that the people that got the jobs werent black..and that the people in charge of the hiring process actually cared he was black.
Now im sure a lot of us are guilty of making those judgements...but is that fair to assume the worst about the employers?

Question for those offended by Cuban's comments - where exactly do you draw the line? It's common knowledge that white people have a fear of black men. That shouldn't surprise you. Is it just the simple utterance that is offending?

Cuban's comments are wrong in the sense that he's using it to somehow justify Sterling's transgressions. However, in a vacuum, I don't see why stating the obvious (that a white man could be afraid of a black man) is offensive, considering you all know this to be true.

What Stephen A. Smith said was far worse than what Cuban said.I can understand a 50 yr old white man being shook of a nikka in a hoodie.I don't see how a black man from Hollis,Queens acts like all of us young dudes show up at job interviews/work wearing Tru Religion jeans and a Vancouver grizzlies snapback.

Its not his thinking that is the problem, its the unquestioned acceptance of this line of thinking - that's the issue!

The white man's ignorance (let's call this what it really is) of black men lead to stereotypical reactions to things. From the Trayvon Martin shooting, to the multiple cases of cops shooting unarmed black men, the unnecessary fear of black people presents problems FOR BLACK PEOPLE. Why wouldn't we be upset about it?

Its an irrational, deep seated fear of the unknown caused by their historical cruelty. They aren't really afraid of us, they are afraid of karma....

Fair enough - but the man also said he'd equally fear a white man with a certain look. It seems that doesn't hold any water in this discussion for some reason.

If white people with tattoos want to take up that discussion, more power to them.

The question remains however, why does a black man in a hoodie cause fear in Mark Cuban? And why is he okay having that stereotype of black men?

#INTHERENTLY EVIL

THESE PEOPLE SWEAR THEY'RE EXPERTS ON RACE WHEN IN REALITY CACS
NEVER HAVE DISCUSSIONS ABOUT RACE UNLESS A BIG STORY LIKE THIS TAKES OVER THE NEWS. OTHERWISE, THEY NEVER HAVE THE DAILY DISCUSSIONS ABOUT RACE WE HAVE IN THE BARBER SHOPS, THE BEAUTY SHOPS, CHURCH, ETC.....DISCUSSIONS ABOUT RACE ARE A NUISANCE TO THEM. DESPITE THAT, THEIR INHERENT ARROGANCE AND BELIEF THAT THEY'RE ALWAYS THE SMARTEST PERSON IN THE ROOM, LEADS TO COMMENTS LIKE THIS bytch THINKING MARK FRUITBAG CUBAN CAN HOLD A CANDLE TO MICHAEL ERIC DYSON IN A RACE DEBATE. STUPID bytch.

that's why it's absolutely no point even attempting to really discuss racism in this country with white people.

they're just either ignorant to racism, act stupid about racism. act like racism doesn't exist, act like everybody is racist to give them a pass for being racist, or straight up deflect blame and bring up what black people need to do to stop racism.

that's why i never ever ever ever ever try to engage in racial discussion with white people in real life.
